It is recognized as a Stroke Center of Excellence and a Bariatric Center of Excellence. The unit has 44 beds with a current census of 44 patients. Patient types include individuals aged 18 years and above with medical conditions such as respiratory illnesses, gastrointestinal illnesses, sepsis, congestive heart failure, diabetes, and behavioral health issues. The RN to patient ratio is typically 1 : 4-6, and during high acuity times, it could increase to 1 : 7-8. Skills required for this position include tracheostomy care, chest tube management, peripheral intravenous starts, wound care, and plurex catheter management. Candidates must have a positive bedside manner and strong communication skills. Support within the department includes CNA staff trained to perform additional skills such as foley catheter insertion and removal, peripheral intravenous removal, and oxygen setup. Unit secretaries are available during day shifts to assist with administrative tasks. Charge nurses may also assist with patient care when staffing allows. Phlebotomy tasks are primarily completed by CNAs through peripheral sticks, while RNs manage central lines. An IV / VAT team is available for difficult sticks and central line dressing changes. Respiratory therapy is provided 24 / 7, with staff available for all respiratory treatments. A hospitalist is present 24 / 7, providing cross coverage at night, and intensivists are available as needed for consults. Telemetry monitoring is conducted remotely. The unit uses an electronic medical record system and various technology for patient safety. Floating to other units within the region may be required based on patient care needs. Travelers will participate in a weekend rotation and are expected to work 75% of holidays. Requests for time off can be approved up to 6 days, not including holidays, and must be added to the end of the contract if hours cannot be met.
