Job Description
3D Design Engineer - Data Center Infrastructure | Fremont, CA (Contract)
Design next-generation liquid-cooled data center infrastructure for a leading electric vehicle and technology innovator, applying advanced CAD modeling and thermal simulation to power cutting-edge AI and computing systems.
About the Role : We're seeking an experienced 3D Design Engineer to drive mechanical architecture for our client's advanced data center operations in the automotive technology and AI sector. This 6-month contract (with extension potential) offers the opportunity to own end-to-end mechanical design for liquid-cooled server infrastructure, optimize thermal performance through digital-twin simulation, and shape the future of hyperscale data center cooling solutions.
Key Responsibilities :
- Own complete mechanical design lifecycle for 3D assemblies including rack structures, cooling manifolds, fluid connectors, and electrical component integration (power shelves, busbars, BBUs)
- Architect and validate high-performance liquid-cooling systems (CDMs) optimizing for flow efficiency, thermal performance, and material compatibility
- Develop comprehensive digital-twin models and perform CFD analysis for thermal management
- Conduct FEA to ensure structural integrity under operational loads
- Collaborate with hardware, electrical, and facilities teams for fully integrated system design
- Produce detailed design documentation including 3D models, 2D fabrication drawings, BOMs, and simulation reports
- Lead design review processes ensuring adherence to industry standards (OCP, ASHRAE, EIA)
- Drive rapid prototyping using 3D printing and fabrication methods for design validation
- Lead technical evaluation and vendor selection for critical components
- Champion continuous improvement of design templates and simulation workflows
Requirements :
Bachelor's or Master's in Mechanical Engineering or related field4+ years mechanical design experience in data center or HPC infrastructureProficiency with major 3D CAD platforms (SolidWorks, CATIA)Demonstrated expertise in simulation tools : CFD for thermal analysis (Cadence / Future Facilities) and FEA for structural / thermal stressComprehensive knowledge of data center subsystems including liquid-cooling loops (CDMs, manifolds, connectors)Experience designing high-power electrical component integration (busbars, power shelves, BBUs)Strong understanding of industry standards (OCP, ASHRAE, EIA)Exceptional communication and cross-functional leadership skillsLocated in Fremont, CA or willing to work onsiteContract Details : 6-Month Contract (Extension Possible) | Fremont, CA | Reports to Data Center Engineering Leadership
