Basic Functions and Scope of Responsibility
The Wellness Advisor is responsible for creating a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment for all members in the YMCA wellness center. This role provides guidance, education, and encouragement to help individuals achieve their health and wellness goals. Wellness Advisors assist with equipment orientation, perform basic fitness assessments, and ensure a clean and safe workout space—all while reflecting the YMCA’s mission and core values.
Role Responsibilities
Greet and engage members in a friendly, approachable manner to build relationships and promote wellness
Provide equipment orientations and instruction to ensure safe and effective use of fitness machines
Perform basic health and fitness assessments to support member goal-setting
Stay informed on current health and wellness trends to better support member needs
Maintain cleanliness and safety of fitness equipment and workout spaces
Respond to emergency situations in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures
Attend required staff meetings and trainings
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Wellness Director or Supervisor
Education, Experience & Training
Minimum age : 18
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Basic knowledge of exercise science and wellness principles preferred
CPR, AED and First Aid certification obtained within 30 days of employment
Must complete the following YMCA wellness training courses within 90 days of hire : Foundations of Listen First, Principles of Member Health & Wellness, Wellness at the Y
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Work Environment and Physical Demands
Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively.
Must have a high level of alertness, concentration, and initiative.
Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time; occasionally stoop / bend.
Always maintain a neat and professional appearance.
