Salary :
Driver / Fork Truck Operator
Our company is looking for a Driver / Fork Truck Operator with experience in the metal fabrication industry.
Under the direct supervision of the General Manager and Logistics Manager, this person will be responsible for the transportation of material throughout the steel yard and fabrication shop, as well as off-site to job sites.
Essential Responsibilities
- Safely operate fork trucks to offload and move material to the designated storage location.
- Operate overhead cranes, hoists, or other moving or lifting equipment within the production facility.
- Organize and safely store material in identified locations.
- Mark or tag material with proper job number and other identifying marks as required.
- Compare purchase orders to delivery receipts for inbound loads and report discrepancies to supervisor.
- Ability to bind / tie-down flatbed loads.
- Responsible for strapping your own loads, safely and efficiently.
- Ensure all items out for delivery have marks / tags with proper job number piece marks and other identifying marks as required.
- Perform pre and post trip inspections to ensure safety.
- Ensure the Customer orders arrive in quality condition.
- Communicate professionally with Customers and Vendors.
- Flexible to changing routines to accomplish the common goals of the organization.
Required Skills :
Experience with industrial fork trucks (10 Ton to 24 Ton) and overhead cranesValid drivers license with reliable transportation; ability to earn medical card (CDL-B is a plus)Ability to speak, read and write in EnglishHigh school diploma or equivalentPhysically capable of lifting / pushing / pulling 70 pounds unassistedPhysically capable of bending / twisting as well as standing for long periods of timeAble to work well with minimal supervision as well as with other colleaguesAbility to prioritize tasks and follow specified proceduresSelf-motivated, detail oriented and has a positive attitudeWillingness to work overtime as neededMust be willing to submit to a pre-employment physical, drug screening and background checkShepard Steel is a structural steel and miscellaneous metals fabrication company that has been part of the Connecticut construction landscape for over 65 years.
