An established environmental consulting firm is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to join its leadership team. This position plays a key role in driving financial discipline, leading project accounting efforts, and supporting strategic business decisions. Reporting directly to the President, the Senior Project Accountant will be a proactive partner across departments, contributing to operational efficiency and long-term growth. The Senior Project accountant will be performing bookkeeper level tasks up to Controller level tasks.
About the Role
As a Senior Project Accountant , you'll lead and consolidate accounting responsibilities currently shared across various roles. The right candidate brings leadership, accuracy, and an ability to implement structure across corporate and project accounting functions. This strategic-level role is essential to supporting decision-making and financial transparency.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain and present the monthly Ownership Dashboard, including key financial, project, and sales KPIs.
Oversee full-cycle accounting, including income statements (accrual and cash basis), balance sheets, cash flow, and budgets.
Manage accounts receivable, invoicing, collections, and days sales outstanding (DSO) performance.
Supervise accounts payable, invoice approvals, and payment processing.
Reconcile multiple bank accounts and manage journal entries, amortization schedules, and month-end closing.
Execute semi-monthly payroll, handle payroll tax filings, and manage unemployment tax reporting.
Administer vendor contracts and ensure issuance of 1099s, while maintaining compliance with IRS and state tax requirements.
Support project managers with financial analysis, budgeting, and profit tracking at the project level.
Assist with contract administration, property tax filings, and contribute to real estate entity bookkeeping.
Play a leadership role in an upcoming accounting system upgrade and support cross-departmental initiatives as needed.
Ideal Candidate Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
5+ years of experience in Project Accountant
Proficiency in Deltek Vision, Deltek Vantage, or a comparable system.
Expertise in both accrual and cash-based accounting.
Advanced Excel skills and analytical thinking.
Strong communication, multitasking, and leadership capabilities.
Self-motivated and solution-oriented with high attention to detail.

Salary range : $95,000 - $120,000
