SCCMHA JOB VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Psychologist - Community Support Services Pay Range : $83,352.52 - $105,056.79 annually $6,000 Recruitment Bonus for Clinical Master level new hires!! ($2,000 paid at start, $2,000 paid after 3 months, and $2,000 paid after successful probation period.) GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES : Under general supervision of Mental Health Supervisor (State Facility and Forensic Intensive Case Management), evaluates consumers using the DSM-IV-TR and serves as the agency / program psychology consultant with specialized skills in the application of behavioral, sociological and psychological concepts in the planning of the delivery of mental health services. Provides guidance in terms of consumer’s resource development and recommendations for community organization of professional and natural supports of consumers implementing the recovery model, performs psychological assessments and clinical evaluations of consumers related to behavioral plans, voluntary / involuntary hospital admissions consultations; provides NGRI status evaluations to determine the adequacy of existing treatment and community management plans; and does other related work. This position will be knowledgeable about and actively support culturally competent recovery based practices; person centered planning as a shared decision making process with the individual, who defines his / her life goals and is assisted in developing a unique path toward those goals; and a trauma informed culture of safety to aid consumer in the recovery process. Essential Duties and Responsibilities : In the mental health program setting prepares professional psychological assessments of consumers and participates in consumer’s personal future planning activities. Familiar with best practice guidelines for individuals with severe mental disorders and accreditation standards relating to the delivery of service. Be familiar with psychological testing, mental status examination and DSM-IV-TR multi-axial classification. The job duties are typical of psychologist working in an out-patient setting. Observes, records and evaluates the behavior of consumers during psychological examinations and other situations. Effectively communicates clinical findings in written and oral form, with treatment recommendations within the Person Centered Planning and Recovery process. Performs directive, non-directive and supportive individual and group therapy. Psychologist selects, administers, scores and interprets a variety of diagnostic instruments, such as psychological, achievement, neuropsychological, intelligence, interest, personality, vocational, and projective tests. Provides guidance over the operation of group therapies and DBT team formation through psychological consultation through facilitating and monitoring group dynamics and review of skill performance and outcome measurements for such clinical practices. Provides crisis intervention assistance. Reviews and coordinates selected admissions, discharges and referrals. Provides testimony in court hearings, regarding a variety of psychological matters. Attends training workshops and seminars related to work. Participates in program research studies related to psychological, educational, or treatment techniques. Maintains records and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work. May perform related essential functions appropriate to the psychological evaluation of the consumer related to program and non-essential functions as required. Adheres to the mission, vision, core values and operating principles of SCCMHA at all times. Incidental Duties and Responsibilities : 1. Performs various administrative / clerical functions such a preparing travel vouchers, making copies of documents, filing, time management, data collection, reporting, etc. 2. Attends meetings, seminars, workshops, and community events related to the public mental health mission. 3. May occasionally transport consumers to and from agencies and community resources in personal automobile or agency vehicle. 4. React productively to change and handles other essential tasks as assigned. 5. Participates in CQI functions. 6. Uses computer hardware and software to perform tasks. 7. Attends and passes mandatory training and keeps their required trainings updated. Reports to : Mental Health Supervisor III (State Facility and Forensic Intensive Case Management) Supervises : None Working Conditions / Environment : Works in office environment with pressures of dealing with time constraints. Frequently drives automobile in all kinds of weather conditions. May counsel individuals who maybe become potentially violent. Psychologist may be expected to evaluate consumers in a variety of settings. QUALIFICATIONS : Education : Master’s degree in a mental health related field from an accredited school. Experience : A minimum of three (2) years experience in the human services field is expected. Professional clinical experience in working with mental health populations, particularly with developmental disabilities or severe mental illness, is preferred. At least three years of full-time postdoctoral, post-internship experience in the practice of psychology involving either training, research, consultation, or program planning in the mental health services. Licenses and Credentials : Must also have a valid Michigan Driver’s license with a good driving record. A licensed psychologist (LP). Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : 1. Clinical awareness and sensitivity, including a belief that individuals with mental illness can be meaningful participants in our community and experience recovery. 2. General skills with resource allocation, including inter-agency, intra-agency and insurance coordination. 3. Knowledge of emotional, social, psychological, and environmental problems, and the techniques used in treating or managing them. 4. Knowledge of techniques for observing; assessing behaviors; and experimental and research techniques. 5. Knowledge of psychotherapy and counseling techniques. 6. Knowledge of the principles and practices of applied behavior analyses; clinical psychology; and group behavior and interaction. 7. Knowledge of abnormal psychology. 8. Knowledge of the techniques of conducting evaluative and therapeutic interviews. 9. Knowledge of the types and uses of standardized psychological tests including the applicable testing for individuals who are developmentally, socially or emotionally impaired. 10. Knowledge of statistical techniques used in testing and research. 11. Ability to effectively interact and establish a rapport with consumers, and to develop therapeutic relationships. 12. Ability to use intervention methods to bring about positive behavioral changes in consumers. 13. Ability to facilitate positive group interaction and mutual support; be able to prepare clear and concise case studies. 14. Ability to administer and score tests, and conduct surveys, interviews, and experimental procedures. 15. Ability to plan, organize and complete work in a timely fashion. 16. Ability to coordinate other disciplines to maximize positive consumer chosen outcomes. 17. Ability to facilitate small groups and work effectively in a team environment. 18. Effective oral and written communication skills, minimum of college level. 19. Effective problem solving and mediation abilities. 20. Ability to maintain favorable public relations and provide community leadership. 21. Ability to exercise independent and mature judgment. 22. Ability to accept and implement constructive supervision. 23. Ability to embrace and practice the concepts associated with PCP principles. 24. Ability to maintain appropriate professional boundaries. Physical / Mental Requirements : 1. Hearing acuity to converse in person and on telephone. 2. Visual Acuity to observe consumers behavior, read and proofread documents and use CRT. 3. Ability to walk, stand or sit for extended periods of time. 4. Manual dexterity to write and to operate standard office equipment (PC, Keyboard, Copy Machine, Fax Machine, etc.) 5. Ability to lift and carry files and supplies at least 20 pounds. 6. Strong interpersonal skills to interact with leadership, employees, consumers and the general public. 7. Analytical skills necessary to conduct research, analyze, and interpret complex data and identify and solve problems by proposing courses of action. 8. Ability to plan short and long range and to manage and schedule time. 9. Ability to handle stress in meeting deadlines and dealing with large numbers of employees and / or consumers.
