We are looking for a meticulous and organized Staff Accountant to join our team in Greenbelt, Maryland. In this Contract-to-permanent position, you will play a pivotal role in managing essential accounting operations, including corporate accounts, card services, accounts payable, and general ledger reconciliations. Responsibilities :
- Process daily share draft returns, stop payments, and maintain accurate member and account records.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts related to corporate accounts, share drafts, and suspense items, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare and post journal entries for exception accounts, teller work, and return items.
- Manage accounts payable by processing invoices, issuing vendor checks, and resolving discrepancies.
- Compile monthly reports for fixed assets, prepaid expenses, and accruals, supporting overall financial reporting.
- Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closings, as well as audit preparations and reporting requirements.
- Investigate and resolve quality control issues, serving as a backup for other accounting team members when needed.
- Handle credit and debit card processing, including daily settlements, reconciliations, and fraud monitoring.
- Collaborate with external vendors, auditors, and financial institutions to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
- Reconcile transaction reports for organizational cash funds, settlements, and adjustments, addressing any discrepancies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
- A minimum of 3–5 years of accounting experience, ideally within a financial institution.
- Proficiency in processing corporate taxes, sales tax, and preparing corporate tax returns.
- Strong skills in journal entries, general ledger management, and account reconciliation.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent organizational and analytical abilities, coupled with strong communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and meet strict deadlines.
- Bondable, with the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and availability for occasional travel.
