The Virginia Eye Institute (VEI) is hiring! VEI is a large and dynamic practice of ophthalmologists and optometrists in the Richmond, VA area.

We are searching for a full-time Facilities Engineer to join our busy practice.

Job Purpose

The Facilities Engineer is responsible for overseeing all building related activities. This role will also be responsible for preserving the good condition of infrastructure and ensure that facilities and equipment are safe and well-functioning. The Facilities Engineer will report to and work closely with VEI's leadership to ensure that our company's accommodation is problem-free and safe so that employees can work under the best conditions and our patients can experience better care.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate all installations under the direction of leadership, such as telecommunications, HVAC, electricity, and equipment
  • Manage the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet health and safety standards
  • Inspect buildings' structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations
  • Ensures security and emergency preparedness procedures are implemented properly
  • Checks completed work by vendors and contractors
  • Stays abreast of building maintenance requirements and communicates maintenance requests with Facilities Management
  • Establishes priorities and work assignments by regularly checking email, voice mail, and cell phone when responding to web-based facilities requests.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot industrial facility and / or production equipment and systems such as HVAC, Compressors, Chillers, pumps, bearings, blowers, fans, gearboxes, air handlers, and other equipment as required.
  • Utilize strong mechanical and electrical skills in order to complete assignments.

  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Well-versed in technical / engineering operations and facilities management best practices
  • HVAC
  • Education and Experience

  • HVAC Certification Required
  • A minimum of 5 years of HVAC experience strongly preferred
  • Preferred – Three (3) years previous Biomedical Engineering Technician in a healthcare setting.
  • Previous experience working with facility renovation / construction / special projects is preferred.
  • Must be able to lift at least 80 lbs
  • This position requires substantial knowledge of a broad range of maintenance areas, such as electrical, mechanical, ground, power, construction, renovation, reorganization, refurbishment, and maintenance of buildings and premises

    This position requires lifting of up to 80 pounds and the physical ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, stretch, reach and walk throughout shift. Travel between practice locations. This position will wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses, gloves, hard hats, and other Personal Protective Equipment as needed. Must have physical strength, balance, hand-eye coordination, and stamina necessary to complete jobs in various areas.
