Job Title : Automation Technician

Job Overview :
The Automation Technician is responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical and automation systems throughout the steelmaking process. This includes the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Metallurgical Furnace (LMF), Continuous Caster, and all associated support equipment. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and demonstrates a strong sense of urgency and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities :
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair equipment in the EAF, LMF, Continuous Caster, and related support systems.
- Install, maintain, and repair instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems (480VAC / 120VAC / 24VDC), including transmitters, switchgear, transformers, relays, MCCs, PLCs, UPS systems, and telemetry systems.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance per established procedures.
- Utilize test equipment and diagnostic tools to verify system functionality and isolate faults.
- Conduct electrical switching and Lock-Out / Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures per safety standards.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, diagrams, and blueprints to identify and resolve issues.
- Document maintenance work, develop PM plans, and implement measures to prevent future breakdowns.
- Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and automation teams to resolve complex issues.
- Work safely in various mill environments, including confined spaces, elevated areas, and near molten metal, high voltage, and high-pressure systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements :
Education : Associate degree or two-year technical degree in PLCs, Industrial Electrical, Electromechanical, Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.Experience : Minimum of 3 years of hands-on industrial experience in electrical, instrumentation, and controls.Technical Skills :Proficient in troubleshooting AC / DC drives, PLCs, and motor control circuits.Strong experience with PLC to I / O to field device troubleshooting.Ability to read and interpret electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.Soft Skills :Strong communication and teamwork abilities.Self-directed, reliable, and safety-conscious.Preferred Experience :Previous work in melt shop and / or caster maintenance.Familiarity with safety programs (Confined Space, LOTO, Fall Protection, Rigging, Mobile Equipment).Work Schedule :
Rotating 12-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays.Overtime may be required to support production needs.Physical Demands :
Ability to lift 50–100 lbs and perform manual labor.Frequent walking, standing, climbing, crouching, and working in various positions.Work in hot, cold, wet, noisy, and dirty environments.Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.Compliance with a drug- and alcohol-free workplace is required.
