TSEC (The Steel Erection Company) is seeking a Field Foreman Welder who can build with their hands and lead with their mind. You'll weld, supervise, coordinate crews, and manage field operations like a captain on the ground.
- Ability to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential from TSA.
- Physical effort with lifting and carrying materials or equipment (up to 50 lbs.).
- Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required.
- Valid California driver's license.
- Occasional travel may be required to support projects though out Southern California (Los Angeles, Orange County, San Bernardino, Riverside, Ventura and San Diego)
Key Responsibilities
Supervise and Lead Daily Field OperationsAssign work, track progress, and ensure safety across all crew tasks - Set the tone each day with clear expectations and calm leadership - Communicate with project managers and adjust priorities as neededRead and Interpret Field DrawingsAccurately understand shop and field drawings, weld symbols, and layouts - Translate the drawings into physical layout and actionable sequences - Spot discrepancies or missing information and communicate clearly with PM or engineer - Adjust in the field when unforeseen conditions arise - with confidence and clarityPerform and Oversee Structural WeldsExecute and inspect field welds (SMAW, FCAW, GMAW) per AWS D1.1 & LA City standards - Guide the welding crew in setting, fitting, and finishing structural connections - Assist with welding yourself when needed - lead by example - Ensure weld quality, cleanliness, and safety before inspectionManage Jobsite Challenges and LogisticsSolve problems in real time : fit-up issues, missing materials, lift delays, field conditions - Coordinate with GC superintendents, inspectors, and vendors - Track timecards, complete safety records such as JHA's, Hot work permits, ect. - Maintain composure and direction when the unexpected shows upEnsure Safety and Field AccountabilityConduct morning safety huddles and enforce OSHA + fall protection standards - Set a tone of care and clarity - no cutting corners - Uphold a clean and organized jobsite with mutual respect among tradesRequirements
3+ years structural welding experience - 1+ years leading a crew or acting as lead welder - Ability to read blueprints and solve layout independently - LA City Structural Welder Certifications - Manual & Semi-Auto - AWS D1.1 Certified or ready to obtain - Strong communication, field judgment, and jobsite awarenessAbility to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential from TSA.Physical effort with lifting and carrying materials or equipment (up to 50 lbs.).Must be available to work extended hours and weekends when needed based on site operational needs; flexibility required.Valid California driver's license; pass MVR to drive company vehiclesOccasional travel may be required to support projects though out Southern CaliforniaWhat We Offer
