POSITION SUMMARY :
The Construction Manager I can run a standalone multi-craft project up to $30 Million dollars. The Construction Manager I primary role on a large construction project is to oversee safety, quality, equipment, material, and manpower and overall site coordination between senior craft leadership.
The Construction Manager I is additionally responsible for supporting and assisting the project lead or being the project lead.
To successfully manage a project, they must have a thorough multi-discipline understanding of the industry best practices and codes.
The role requires interfacing with all areas affected by the project including the client(s), engineering / design, subcontractors, distributors, vendors, and the ongoing strategic communication with project management regarding the status of the project.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Oversee and manage General Foreman and Superintendents in multiple disciplines.
- Represent MIC in a professional manner in all client interaction activities.
- Communicate with client, engineers, subcontractors, and vendors on all construction related issues.
- Champion MIC’s Corporate Safety Plan and develop a site-specific safety plan.
- Review all claimed quantities for all disciplines. Identify productivity problems early and propose solutions.
- Review all work plans and work packages.
- Provide support to ensure the site quality plan is communicated and all inspections and quality documentation is being completed on time and assembled for final turn over.
- Coach Superintendents on monitoring and staying below the estimated Average Labor Rates.
- Review Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s). Train all craft and staff to correctly complete JSA’s.
- Lead jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training.
- Schedule material deliveries and monitor procurement status report.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite.
- Review material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
- Perform basic engineering calculations and technical drafting to support field operations.
- Assist Project Engineer to gather and prepare data for submittal or transmittal to the customer, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use.
- Provide information and review field issued purchase orders and subcontracts.
- Partner with home office procurement and subcontract administration functions.
- Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations.
- Support all project recordkeeping and correspondence functions including daily reports, photographs, requests for information (RFIs), submittal, transmittal, memorandums, and other contract required correspondence.
- Provide information for all project controls such as productivity tracking including Average labor rate, indirect scheduling, equipment schedule and log, risk, and opportunity log, etc.
- Provide information for the creation and maintenance of a master project schedule.
- Provide information to generate change orders and as-built data to be reviewed by the Project Manager.
- Review Superintendent’s 6-week schedules versus the Master Schedule. Train your Foreman and General Foreman how to complete 3-week and 1-weekschedules.
- Using MIC’s established personnel requisition process, work with Recruiting to hire craft professionals for your discipline.
- Train Superintendents how to safely manage and motivate a crew.
- Assist Project Engineer in taking the Estimate and converting it to the MIC’s Standard Phase codes.
- Request construction equipment and materials.
- Assist Project Engineer to accurately manage the cost forecasting process for your disciplines (labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment).
Identify trends and suggest corrective actions when needed.
- Know all of the provisions, terms and scope of the Prime contract.
- Manage, lead direct reports, and mentor.
SUPERVISORY :
Supervise 10 or more foremen and lead other superintendents and crews consisting of up to 200 or more employees.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management
- Ten (10) years of field experience in Industrial Construction
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED :
- Be knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
- When on-site, actively participate in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
- Set a personal example of safe behavior.
- Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Provide constructability and cost saving alternatives at design and construction phases of project.
- Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :
- Work up to a 12-hour shift doing hard physical work in varying temperatures and outside conditions.
- May need to maintain physical strength and stamina; Use arms, hands, and legs fully; Push, pull, and frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds;
and stoop, kneel, balance, crouch, crawl, and climb to perform job tasks.

HOURS :
This position is a Full-Time position scheduled to work typically 50 hours per week. Schedule is subject to projects requirements.
TRAVEL :
Travel required up to 90%. Position requires presence directly on the Project Site location with intermittent travel to residence of record.
