Job Description\n

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Oncology position in an acute care setting, requiring a CA RN license and strong teamwork skills.

\n \n Responsibilities\n

  • Work in a 17-bed Med / Surg Oncology unit within an acute care hospital
  • Care for a patient population that is mostly oncology with some med / surg overflow
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1 : 5, potentially 1 : 4 if a patient is receiving chemotherapy
  • Chemo administration is not required, but comfort caring for oncology patients is expected
  • Utilizes Cerner EMR system
  • Night shifts, 12 hours, 6 : 45pm to 7 : 15am, with four weekend shifts required in a four-week schedule
  • First to float, with floating to telemetry or other med / surg units as needed; tele ratio is 1 : 4
  • Portable telemetry boxes are used as needed; monitor tech available
  • Duties include caring for oncology and med / surg patients, completing assigned documentation in Cerner, and monitoring telemetry as needed
  • No vent management required
  • Hospitalist coverage, respiratory therapy, and pharmacy services are available 24 / 7
  • A clinical supervisor serves as charge nurse and provides break relief but does not take a patient assignment
  • One nurse aide is present for 8 hours during day shifts
  • Orientation includes one unit-based shift
  • Compliance with navy scrubs is required
  • Holiday coverage rotates with permanent staff; holiday time-off requests will be considered but are not guaranteed

  • Active CA RN license required at time of consideration
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of recent Med / Surg Oncology nursing experience
  • Current BLS certification required
  • COVID vaccine required
  • Ability to read and interpret telemetry; must pass a dysrhythmia exam
  • Must be a team player with prior travel experience
  • Must not have been employed by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility in the past year
