Job description

Defense Privacy & Technology Associate Attorney

Hours Requirement : The position entails a billable requirement of 1850 hours , with an additional 50 hours dedicated to diversity-related pro bono initiatives , resulting in a total annual requirement of 1900 hours

Compensation & Benefits : The anticipated annual base salary for this Boston-based role ranges from $215,000 to $275,000 . The firm also offers a comprehensive benefits package along with eligibility for discretionary bonus compensation , which is influenced by factors such as performance, experience level, contributions to the team, geographic location, and professional qualifications. Because bonus amounts vary, the salary range reflects the firm's good-faith estimate of expected base compensation.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out : This role provides the opportunity to contribute to impactful defense-oriented privacy and cybersecurity work at a major national platform. Attorneys are encouraged to collaborate, innovate, and help shape strategic solutions for clients facing emerging privacy risks and evolving security challenges.

The firm is a prominent AM100 national defense-focused law firm with several hundred attorneys across multiple U.S. offices. Known for its collaborative culture and dedication to fostering an inclusive environment, the firm encourages applicants from a wide spectrum of personal and professional backgrounds. Its teams are recognized for high-level work, strategic judgment, and a commitment to delivering exceptional defense-oriented legal service.

The firm is seeking an Associate Attorney to join its Privacy & Technology group, which is aligned with the broader Litigation Department. While litigation experience is beneficial—particularly experience relevant to defense-side matters —the position concentrates primarily on privacy compliance counseling and, secondarily, guiding clients through cybersecurity incidents and related regulatory demands.

Responsibilities : The attorney selected for this role will handle substantive defense and advisory work, including :

  • Helping clients navigate cybersecurity incidents and coordinating strategic response plans aligned with defense best practices.
  • Creating, reviewing, and improving enterprise-wide privacy and cyber governance programs.
  • Interpreting and applying leading privacy laws and frameworks, including GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, the NY SHIELD Act, and similar regulatory schemes.
  • Delivering practical guidance that supports risk mitigation and strengthens clients' defensive postures in data-protection matters.

Qualifications :

  • Approximately 2–4 years of experience in privacy, data protection, technology matters, or related defense litigation.
  • Direct involvement in cybersecurity incident-response matters and developing privacy or cyber-compliance programs.
  • Admission to the Massachusetts bar (or eligibility for prompt admission); additional bar admissions are welcome.
  • Excellent academic background, polished written and oral advocacy skills, and sound professional judgment.
  • A proactive approach, strong analytical abilities, and comfort operating in a fast-paced and often defense-driven environment.
  • CIPP-US certification is a plus but not required.
