Position Summary
Field Technicians or NETA Technicians are expected to perform service, test and maintain various types of power transmission and distribution equipment.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Conduct inspections, diagnostics, commissioning, and data collection on electrical systems ranging from low to high voltage (up to 500kV)
- Test and assess switchgear and circuit breakers across low, medium, and high voltage ranges
- Carry out preventative maintenance, testing, and repairs on transformers and associated apparatus ranging from 45 KVA to 130 MVA, both dry-type and oil-filled
- Service and recondition various types of circuit breakers : low voltage (480V molded case and air-magnetic) and medium voltage (up to 15KV vacuum or air-magnetic)
- Experience with SF6 gas systems and gas-insulated switchgear is a plus but not mandatory
- Evaluate and test low and medium voltage power cables
- Operate high-voltage testing equipment such as Doble Power Factor units
- Provide start-up, diagnostics, and repair of control circuits and transfer schemes
- Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency response and act promptly when service is required
- Ensure all tasks comply strictly with applicable safety standards and legal regulations
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent requiredAt least one year of hands-on experience in electrical testing or related field service workWorking knowledge of NEC, OSHA, NFPA 70E, IEEE, and NETA guidelinesPractical experience with medium to high voltage systems (230kV experience preferred)Military training in electrical power (Army Prime Power, Air Force EPP, Navy, etc.) is a plusMust have a valid driver's license and ability to travelAble to complete detailed field reports and documentationPhysical Demands
Ability to lift 50 lbs routinely, crawl, climb, stand for extended durations, and operate in challenging field environments
