The University of Colorado Colorado Springs (UCCS) is a premier educational institution that prides itself on academic excellence, research, and community engagement and is actively seeking a Police Officer to join our team. The work location is on-site. This position is Non-Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) overtime provisions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide law enforcement services, health, safety, and protection to university property and visitors. Serve as the first point of contact for victims of crime and emergencies, offering assistance, information, and direction to campus community members and visitors.
  • Patrol university properties by vehicle and on foot to detect and deter criminal activity and promote safety.
  • Respond to and investigate reports of criminal activity; enforce federal, state, and local laws, campus regulations, and traffic rules. Arrest, release, or incarcerate offenders as appropriate.
  • Manage vehicle and pedestrian traffic by enforcing the Colorado Motor Vehicle Code and campus regulations; issue summonses and warnings.
  • Conduct interviews and interrogations within legal guidelines; write reports documenting investigations and prepare cases for presentation in courts. Provide testimony as needed.
  • Coordinate responses to intoxicated, aggressive, or distressed individuals; resolve disputes to prevent future problems.
  • Offer crime prevention and safety information to the campus community; educate and enforce as needed.
  • Maintain proficiency in laws, practices, firearms, non-lethal arrest and control tactics, first aid, and CPR; stay current with required training.
  • Respond to alarms and other security issues; operate within internal security systems as required.

Qualifications

  • Current, valid Colorado POST Certification (must provide a copy with the application).
  • At least 21 years of age; one year of law enforcement work experience relevant to the assignment.
  • Current, valid Colorado Driver's License; no felony or domestic violence convictions; no critical driving history flags within specified periods.
  • Strong ability to pass background checks and pre-employment checks (physical, drug testing, etc.).
  • Higher Education policing experience is ideal; patrol experience is highly qualified.
  • Must be able to work various shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Salary and Benefits

    Salary Range : $69,087 – $79,116 annually. Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
