Network Engineer
Hybrid : Irving, TX (3 days on-site)
We’re looking for a seasoned Network Engineer with deep expertise in Content Delivery Networks (CDN), edge routing, and network infrastructure hardware. This role focuses on optimizing network performance and reliability across distributed edge environments. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with Akamai, Fastly, and similar CDN technologies, alongside a strong background in firewalls, routing, switching, and perimeter security. You’ll be responsible for the physical and logical design of the network edge, ensuring high availability, low latency, and strong security controls at every point of delivery.
Key Responsibilities :
- Design, configure, and maintain network edge infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers supporting CDN and content delivery operations.
- Deploy and tune CDN integrations (Akamai, Fastly, etc.) to optimize performance at the network layer, ensuring efficient traffic distribution across global edge locations.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve Layer 1–4 network issues related to latency, packet loss, routing inefficiencies, or BGP / OSPF instability.
- Implement and manage firewall and perimeter security solutions (Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA, or Check Point) to protect CDN endpoints and network ingress / egress points.
- Collaborate with network operations and security teams to enforce consistent network and edge security policies across data centers and edge POPs.
- Perform capacity planning and traffic engineering to ensure optimal utilization of backbone and peering connections.
- Maintain high availability through redundancy design (HA pairs, VRRP / HSRP configurations, and load balancing).
- Leverage tools such as NetFlow, SNMP, and syslog for traffic analysis, diagnostics, and proactive issue detection.
- Automate network configurations and device monitoring using scripting or network management tools.
- Support DDoS mitigation, edge routing optimization, and incident response in coordination with network security teams.
Required Qualifications :
5 – 7 years of experience in network engineering roles focused on routing, switching, and perimeter security.Strong understanding of TCP / IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VLANs, and QoS.Hands-on experience with hardware platforms such as Cisco, Juniper, Arista, Fortinet, or Palo Alto.Experience integrating and managing CDN edge connectivity (Akamai, Fastly, Cloudflare, etc.) within enterprise or ISP environments.Proven ability to diagnose low-level network issues using packet captures and performance metrics.Familiarity with load balancing (F5, Citrix ADC, or NGINX) and WAN optimization.Working knowledge of edge security practices, including DDoS prevention and traffic filtering.Experience with network monitoring systems (SolarWinds, ThousandEyes, Nagios, or Kentik).Excellent problem-solving and documentation skills.Preferred Qualifications :
Experience in large-scale, distributed network environments (ISP, CDN provider, or enterprise edge).Familiarity with IPv6, Anycast, and peering strategies. Background in network automation using Python, Ansible, or REST APIs.Professional certifications such as CCNP, JNCIP, PCNSE, or F5-CA are highly valued.
