Job description

Provide advanced nursing care in a dynamic Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit (CTICU) supporting critically ill patients recovering from complex cardiac surgeries. This contract assignment focuses on high-acuity care involving devices such as ECMO, Impella, IABP, and ventricular assist devices.

Location: Concord, NC
Concord offers a balance of suburban comfort with access to outdoor amenities, local dining, and cultural experiences. Its proximity to larger metropolitan areas provides a vibrant lifestyle outside work hours.

Shift & Schedule:

  • 12-hour Night Shift (7:00 pm 7:00 am)
  • 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights
  • Travel nurses will work approximately 75% of holidays
  • No on-call or callback requirements
  • Floating within adult critical care units as needed

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage complex cardiac surgery patients with advanced mechanical circulatory support devices
  • Provide expert assessment, planning, and implementation of nursing care at a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
  • Present patient updates twice per shift (3:00 pm and 8:30 pm)
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including intensivists, hospitalists, respiratory therapists, and resource nurses
  • Utilize Epic EMR and specialized equipment such as Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips/Edwards monitors

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Current RN licensure with a minimum of 2 years CTICU or equivalent cardiac critical care experience
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • Proven proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system
  • Experience managing ECMO, Impella devices (right and left), IABP, LVAD/RVAD, and ventilators essential
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present patient status effectively

  • 14 beds with an average census of 11 patients
  • Support staff includes CNAs, weekday unit clerks, phlebotomy PRN, and 24/7 IV/VAT, respiratory therapy, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage
