Position Overview
Ballad Health is seeking a Board-Certified Gastroenterologist to provide inpatient-only coverage through its Tennessee Float Pool , alternating 1 week coverage blocks between two hospitals.
The two hospitals are approximately 25 miles apart (about a 30-35 minute drive) , providing easy access and coordinated rotation between sites.
This 13-week assignment begins January 5, 2026 , with weekly 24-hour call rotations . The provider will manage inpatient GI consults, perform ERCP and general GI procedures, and respond to emergent cases across both facilities.
This position ranks in the Top 8% of Gastroenterology locum pay rates nationwide and offers estimated total provider income of approximately $600,000 without callback or holiday premiums. Assignment Highlights
- Schedule : 24-hour call, 7 : 00 a.m. - 7 : 00 a.m. next day
- Rotation : Alternating one-week coverage at each facility (per schedule)
- Type : Inpatient only (no clinic)
- Average Census : 5-8 inpatients per day
- Average Procedures : 3-5 per day (ERCP, EGD, colonoscopy, GI bleed management)
- Support Staff : Endo suite nurses, anesthesia, and OR staff
- EMR : Epic (required - facility does not train)
- Credentialing Timeline : 90 days (expedited for clean files)
- Travel : Airfare, hotel, rental car, or mileage reimbursed

Provide 24-hour inpatient GI call coverage and perform emergency procedures.Conduct diagnostic and therapeutic GI procedures (EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP, foreign body removal).Manage cases including GI bleeds, obstructions, and liver dysfunction.Round daily on inpatients and respond to hospital consults in critical order.Collaborate with hospitalist, surgery, and anesthesia teams.Complete accurate documentation in Epic EMR.Comply with Ballad Health standards for credentialing, infection control, and patient safety.by Jobble
