Shift : 3rd Shift, 10 : 00 PM – 6 : 00 AM (Monday – Friday)

Salary : $71,000 – $82,000 annually (commensurate with experience)

Type : Direct Hire

Job Description

The Supervisor, Acceptance is responsible for overseeing all acceptance site operations at the Brooklyn rail yards, ensuring that work is conducted safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with standards, customer specifications, and FRA requirements. This position requires a strong leader who can manage teams across shifts, coordinate with multiple departments, and maintain adherence to schedules, quality standards, and safety policies.

The Supervisor will serve as the primary liaison between Engineering, Production, Quality, and the Customer, providing oversight of inspection, testing, and acceptance processes, while driving operational discipline and team performance on-site.

Essential Functions

  • Develop and execute business strategies aligned with Management Policy.
  • Manage site personnel effectively : select, train, develop, and evaluate employees while maintaining succession planning.
  • Enforce work standards, schedules, and company procedures to meet operational goals and delivery timelines.
  • Approve work schedules, time reports, and manage labor utilization to stay within assigned man-hour budgets.
  • Supervise and monitor all Acceptance processes at designated yard sites (Pitkin and Coney Island).
  • Provide leadership and motivation to all Acceptance staff, ensuring safety, quality, and performance expectations are met.
  • Administer employee discipline and development per company policies.
  • Oversee the acquisition and maintenance of test equipment and manage calibration compliance within the Acceptance Department.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, Quality, and Customer representatives to resolve issues related to defects, open items, or discrepancies.
  • Ensure all QA non-conforming product procedures are followed; notify suppliers promptly and document discrepancies per standards.
  • Maintain company documentation related to Acceptance testing; ensure final documentation is provided for Car History Books.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure compliance with all customer and yard safety policies.
  • Prepare and coordinate daily schedules with Production and the Customer.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in warranty, production, quality, or engineering management within a manufacturing environment.
  • Associate’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and coordinate complex acceptance site activities while meeting company delivery schedules.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and report preparation.
  • Must be capable of working in an active rail car environment and performing under time-sensitive conditions.
  • Must be safety-oriented and able to make sound, judgment-based decisions.
  • Ability to lift / pull up to 40 lbs.
  • Strong customer service and team-building skills.
  • Must be willing to travel and support operations at remote sites as needed.
  • Work Environment

    This role operates primarily in active rail yard environments (Pitkin and Coney Island Yards), requiring both indoor and outdoor work. Conditions can include exposure to weather elements such as heat, cold, rain, and snow.

  • Must wear steel-toe work boots and appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Requires working in and around rail cars, heavy equipment, and confined spaces with strict adherence to all safety protocols.
  • Involves standing, climbing, bending, and walking for extended periods during inspections.
  • Collaboration across departments, vendors, and customer representatives is routine.
