About City Year
City Year is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to helping students succeed in schools. Teams of City Year AmeriCorps members provide essential support to students, classrooms, and entire school communities, ensuring that every student has access to a high-quality education that equips them with the skills and mindset to thrive and positively impact their community.
Your Role
As a City Year AmeriCorps member, you will focus on coaching and mentoring elementary, middle, and high school students. Your mission is to empower students in achieving academic success, improving their attendance, and developing positive behaviors. You will monitor individual student progress and collaborate with teachers to assist in classroom instruction and other in-class activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Support academic coaching and interpersonal development for students through one-on-one and small group interactions.
- Develop literacy and math skills by tailoring learning activities to different student levels, answering questions, and motivating them to complete assignments.
- Create and implement effective behavior management systems for students.
- Enhance interpersonal skills using proven strategies involving learning, practice, reflection, and repetition.
- Work closely with teachers and team members to collect and analyze individual student progress data.
- Foster an engaging, safe, and healthy classroom environment in partnership with the teacher.
- Support school-wide initiatives aimed at boosting student and family engagement.
- Help conduct extended day and virtual programming to support students before, during, and after school.
- Create and lead events to celebrate and acknowledge student growth in academics and behavior.

To apply, you should meet the following criteria :
Be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (DACA status is not eligible)Be between 17-25 years old by July 1, 2025Hold a GED, high school diploma, or some college experienceHave served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps programComplete a background checkBe available to start by July / August 2025 (exact start date depends on location)How to Apply
