Accountant

Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Accountant / Bookkeeper to join our finance team. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial software, and industry standards. This role offers an opportunity to work with diverse clients, including corporate entities, utilizing advanced accounting tools and techniques to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance. The successful applicant will demonstrate proficiency in various accounting software platforms and possess a solid understanding of GAAP, double-entry bookkeeping, and financial analysis.

Duties

• Manage and maintain accurate general ledger accounting, including journal entries, account analysis, and account reconciliation
• Perform balance sheet reconciliation and general ledger reconciliation to ensure financial accuracy
• Prepare and review financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements
• Handle accounts payable and accounts receivable processes efficiently using software such as QuickBooks, Steelhead
• Conduct bank reconciliations regularly to verify account balances against bank statements
• Assist with budgeting, financial planning, and forecasting activities
• Ensure all bookkeeping activities adhere to GAAP standards and governmental accounting requirements when applicable
• Maintain detailed records of financial transactions and ensure proper documentation for audits or reviews
• Support tax preparation activities by providing relevant financial data and documentation
• Utilize technical accounting skills for complex transactions involving governmental or non-profit entities
• Perform account analysis to identify discrepancies or irregularities in financial data
• Write clear and comprehensive financial reports for management or external stakeholders

Requirements

• Proven experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage, or Quicken; familiarity with multiple platforms is preferred
• Strong understanding of GAAP, double-entry bookkeeping, journal entries, debits & credits, and general ledger accounting
• Knowledge of corporate accounting practices as well as governmental accounting standards when applicable
• Experience with bank reconciliation, account reconciliation, accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and tax preparation
• Ability to perform balance sheet reconciliation and general ledger reconciliation accurately
• Familiarity with financial concepts including budgeting, account analysis, and financial report writing
• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail in bookkeeping tasks
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data effectively
• Proficiency in 10 key typing for data entry accuracy
• Effective communication skills for preparing detailed financial reports and documentation
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; relevant certifications are a plus
