JOB SUMMARY Under general supervision, the Solid Waste Driver operates a truck and loader along established routes to collect solid waste for the City of Victoria.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Employees are required to be in attendance and prepared to begin work at their assigned work location on the specified days and hours. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Follows assigned route to collect solid waste; operates a rear loader vehicle to collect (green) yard waste.
Identifies and tags receptacles that are not in compliance with collection policies; collects out of service carts for repair or replacement.
Cleans and sanitizes trucks; performs minor maintenance as needed; completes daily paperwork.
Participates in cleaning and maintaining the shop and breakroom.
Performs related duties as required or assigned.
Other Duties: Perform all additional job-related tasks as required or as they arise.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Work is performed in an automated garbage truck throughout the City of Victoria and requires exposure to potentially dangerous machinery, hazardous chemicals and substances, and various outdoor weather conditions. May be required to climb ladders and lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS High school diploma or GED preferred
Two (2) years of driving experience; OR equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Must possess a Texas Class B driver's license with Air Brake endorsement or obtain license within six (6) months of hire.
Applicable local, state, federal laws and ordinances.
Records maintenance and retention practices.
Customer services principles, practices, and etiquette.
Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.
Following written and verbal instructions.
Organizing work and setting priorities to meet deadlines.
Maintaining accurate logs and records.
Operating a truck safely.
Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
