Position Summary
The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) plays a vital role in delivering safe, compassionate, and whole-person care to our patients. CMAs at Esperanza support clinicians across pediatrics, adult medicine, OB / GYN, and HIV care. Duties include preparing patients for exams, assisting during clinical visits, performing phlebotomy, managing back desk and triage areas, and nurturing spiritual care for both patients and teammates. CMAs may rotate responsibilities depending on clinic needs and personal skill set.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare adult and pediatric patients for exams
Assist providers during patient visits
Maintain exam rooms between visits and ensure cleanliness and stock
Support back desk and triage operations
Perform phlebotomy and assist with in-house lab functions
Collaborate with nurses and clinicians to assess patient needs
Organize and restock storage and clinical workspaces
Share Christian faith and spiritual encouragement with patients when appropriate
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Completion of a Medical Assistant program from an accredited institution
Minimum 6 months of experience in a hospital or primary care setting
Must be fully bilingual in English and Spanish
Proficient in basic math (fractions, decimals, multiplication, division)
Able to handle confidential information with integrity
Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to put patients at ease
Calm under pressure and organized under multiple priorities
Reliable, punctual, and a strong communicator
Comfortable working with both adults and children
Willing and able to provide spiritual care and prayer with patients
COVID-19 Vaccine Requirement
Esperanza Health Center requires all on-site workforce members—including employees, contractors, and volunteers—to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 . Exemption requests may be considered for valid medical or religious reasons. Start dates will be delayed until full compliance is confirmed.
