Lactation Consultant

Job Description

The Lactation Consultant provides specialized breastfeeding support, education, and counseling to patients and families within USF Health OB / GYN clinics and affiliated Tampa General Hospital sites. This role promotes evidence-based lactation practices, assists with complex feeding concerns, and collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff to improve maternal-infant health outcomes. This position requires a level 2 background check and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct lactation consultation and develop individualized care plans for patients.
• Address breastfeeding challenges including latch issues, milk supply, and infant feeding.
• Educate patients on pumping, milk storage, and return-to-work planning.
• Serve as a resource for OB / GYN faculty, residents, and staff on lactation best practices.
• Document care in the electronic health record and participate in departmental initiatives.
