Reporting Supervisor : Day Habilitation Program Director
Position Summary : The Art Instructor is responsible for creating and implementing engaging art programs that promote creativity, self-expression, and personal growth among our Day Habilitation Individuals.
Duties :
- Develop and Implement Art Programs :
- Design and implement appropriate art programs and activities for individuals.
- Plan lessons that incorporate a variety of artistic techniques, mediums, and styles to engage
participants and foster their artistic skills.
Adapt teaching strategies to accommodate different learning abilities.Provide Individual and Group Instruction :Teach basic art skills, such as drawing, painng, sculpture, and mixed media, to participants.Offer individualized instruction to help participants develop their artistic abilities and talents.Conduct group art sessions, encouraging participants to collaborate and express themselvesthrough art.
Manage classroom behaviors and direct activities in a way that stimulates participation.Foster Creativity and Self-Expression :Encourage participants to explore their creativity through art and express their emotionsthrough various artistic mediums and styles.
Provide opportunities for participants to create their own art pieces, explore different art forms,and showcase their artwork.
Assess Progress and Provide Feedback :Evaluate individuals' artistic abilities and progress and provide constructive feedback to supporttheir growth and development.
Keep detailed records of participants' achievements, areas of improvement, and individualizedgoals.
All other duties as assigned or requested.Qualifications :
2 years of previous experience with individuals with developmental disabilities or equivalenteducation is preferred.
Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or a related field (preferred).Proficiency in a variety of artistic techniques, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and mixedmedia.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help individuals explore and enjoy art.Organizational skills to plan and coordinate art programs and activities.Flexibility to adjust teaching strategies based on individual progress and abilities.Must be at least 18 years of age.Physical Demands / Working Conditions :
Handles basic concepts and problems, balancing multiple tasks simultaneously.The ability to effectively communicate (orally and written) and interact with others, includingdiverse, inter-disciplinary, cross-functional teams.
The ability to read, concentrate and learn.Physical requirements include : sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, walking, lifting, pushing andpulling in excess of 50 pounds, and crisis management techniques including physical holds and
restraints.
Ability to stand, walk, and move freely around the facility to actively engage with participants.Lift and carry art supplies and materials as needed.Good manual dexterity to demonstrate artistic techniques and assist participants.Excellent listening skills and ability to communicate effectively with individuals with developmentaldisabilities.
Patience and emotional resilience to handle challenging behaviors and adapt teaching methodsaccordingly.
Support and maintain all corporate policies, procedures, and quality and confidentiality standards.Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed to meet the needs of the organizationat any time.
Trainings : All must successfully complete the mandatory DDD trainings : Overview of Developmental
Disabilities, Abuse and Neglect, Medication Administration, CPR & First Aid, Agency New Hire Orientation, Agency's approved training on handling Life-Threatening Emergencies / Danielle 's Law, and other professionally based training deemed necessary.
