Patient Transporter
Job Summary : This position is responsible for the safe and timely transportation of patients, specimens, and medication, throughout the hospital as assigned.
Essential Functions :
- Transport patients safely, timely, and efficiently. This may include assisting with lifting the patients on and off beds and moving patients throughout the hospital.
- Requires the ability to recognize if the patient is experiencing stress or other issues during transport and immediately seeks assistance.
- Monitors O2, IV's, catheters, etc. and alert appropriate personal with problems 100% of the time.
- Informs supervisor / dispatcher of all delays within 10 minutes.
- Maintains transport equipment in a clean, safe, and orderly manner. Returns all equipment to the appropriate location.
- Maintains and completes all departmental records, completes proper handoff before removing patient from dept / unit. Check all patients ID bands and complete two patient identifiers prior to transportation.
- Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures.
- Understands and demonstrate safe lifting and transport techniques.
- Knows and practices universal precautions as appropriate.
- Requires demonstrated communication skills to interact with courtesy, tact, empathy, and professionalism in daily interactions with patient, their families, clinical licensed and non-licensed staff, physicians, and management.
- Ability to understand and follow direction, ability to comply with HIPAA confidentiality requirements.
- May be responsible for transporting specimens, oxygen, stretchers, and other items as assigned.
- Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Range of Pay : Between $15.70 and $18.57, based on experience.
Qualifications : Required : High school diploma or equivalent, Basic Life Support (BLS) AHA American Heart Association or ARC American Red Cross upon hire, Demonstrated communication skills to interact with courtesy, tact, empathy, and professionalism in daily interaction with patients, their families, clinical licensed and non-licensed staff, physicians, and management.
Preferred : Prior transport experience.
