Patient Care Technician

Performs specific patient care procedures such as phlebotomy, wound care, gastric and urethral tube insertion and bedside testing under the direction of a licensed nurse and / or performs specific support-procedures for the operation of a nursing or clinical department. Operates patient monitoring systems.

Qualifications

High school or GED required

Specialized, short-term training in medical / surgical patient care or the delivery of special care

One to three years experience preferred

Receives on-the-job training and competency verification to perform primary functions. Completion of a PHS Non-Licensed Assistive Personnel course or similar training required prior to entering classification

Formal medical technician or military training preferred
