The Assistant Club Manager in Training (AMIT) works closely with the Club Manager to provide leadership and direction within the club and drive club performance, particularly for the departments they directly manage. The AMIT role prepares individuals to assume one of three Assistant Club Manager positions : Merchandising, Perishables, or Member Experience. The trainee will receive focused development and experience aligned to their designated track and will ultimately oversee the corresponding departments. Responsibilities include ensuring consistent execution of policies and procedures, delivering a positive member service experience, maintaining Grand Opening Look Daily (GOLD) standard club conditions, and providing overall leadership within the club.
A key function of the AMIT role is talent development, leadership, and delivering results. The AMIT leads audit compliance efforts, drives collaboration with Business Partners (BPs), and oversees onboarding, certification, and training to ensure food safety and operational excellence. This role may serve as Manager on Duty (MOD) for the club as needed, taking full responsibility for club operations, team leadership, and member engagement during assigned shifts. A valid ServSafe Food Safety Certification is required and must be kept current. May require yearly certification for a forklift license. In Florida, this role must obtain a qualifier certification for retail propane oversight. BJ's covers applicable costs and training.
Responsibilities
- Provide Strategic Department Leadership : Oversee daily operations across assigned departments (Merchandising, Perishables, or Member Experience) with strong business acumen and flawless execution of club standards.
- Recruit, Hire, and Onboard : Manage hiring processes, onboarding, and certification to ensure capable team members.
- Oversee Labor Planning and Scheduling : Create and adjust labor schedules aligned with trends and budgets.
- Drive Sales, Inventory Control, and Shrink Management : Lead processes to maintain in-stock conditions and minimize shrink.
- Champion Member Experience Standards : Model and enforce GAA, GOLD, and LAST service standards.
- Execute Operational Readiness : Ensure departments are clean, stocked, and ready for business each day.
- Lead Department Talent Management : Conduct performance reviews, mentor leaders, and support development programs.
- Utilize Tools and Reporting : Use club tools and dashboards to identify opportunities and drive results.
- Ensure Compliance and Safety : Enforce policies including food safety, sanitation, OSHA, and audits; resolve issues with minimal escalation.
- Support Special Initiatives : Plan merchandising transitions and special projects in coordination with leadership.
- Maintain Equipment and Facilities : Monitor and escalate equipment issues to ensure operations continuity.
- Cross-Functional Support : Provide leadership across departments as needed.
- Operate Equipment Safely : If assigned, operate forklifts per safety protocols.
- Attendance and Reliability : Maintain regular, predictable attendance as an essential job function.
Qualifications
4+ years of experience as a retail store, supermarket, or warehouse operations manager required.Strong drive for results, honesty, and commitment to high levels of service.Excellent communication and leadership skills for large teams.Knowledge of shrink controls, staff development, merchandising, customer service, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.Demonstrated leadership and cross-functional team management experience.Knowledge of store operations, membership, front-line, gas, tire bay, maintenance, receiving, and omni procedures.Basic computer skills (MS Word, MS Excel, Email); ServSafe certification required; forklift operator required.Open shift availability; must be at least 18 years old.Benefits

This reflects a good faith estimate and may vary by location, experience, and qualifications.
