Job description

Travel Specialist

Help As a TRAVEL SPECIALIST at the GS-0301-12 some of your typical work assignments may include :

  • Serve as the System Administrator for DTS and functions as the Lead Defense Travel Administrator providing updates to supervisor outlining office operations, program status, resource availability, any new projected travel requirements, and identifies personnel, equipment, and training needs.
  • Reviewing travel systems and databases and ensuring accurate application of Exchange Rates, Daily Subsistence Allowance Rates, and other allowable rates related to travel authorizations and vouchers.
  • Reviewing, preparing and / or updating travel orders for incoming employees and detailed individuals assigned to the agency on official business.
  • Coordinating all matters relating to official and diplomatic passports to include official visa requirements, travel documentation, status of military and civilian personnel.
  • Coordinating reservations and ticketing of commercial and military travel through SATO and advises travelers of restrictions and procedures governing all modes of transportation.
  • Responsible for the program execution and management of the day-to-day operations of the DoD Government Travel Credit Card program for personnel (Service Members & U.S. Government Civilian Employees).

  • Qualifications :

    You may qualify at the GS-12, if you fulfill the following qualifications :

  • A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service :
  • Manage program travel activities; skills in developing methods and approaches to evaluate a travel program; developing new methods and approaches to evaluate a travel program; preparing travel authorizations and vouchers and advising office travelers of policies, knowledge of passport issuance; regulations and relocation procedures and resolving technical and functional problems in travel automated systems (e.g. Defense Travel System).
  • Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

    Education Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.

    Additional information :

    Incumbent must attain DoD Security Cooperation Workforce (SCW) Certification and complete related continuous learning requirements in accordance with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2017, Title 10 United States Code, Section 384, and Security Cooperation Workforce Certification Program 2.0 requirements. Incumbent must complete DoD SCW Basic-level certification courses within one year. Requirements for Proficiency Level 1 - At least 1 year of successful SC work experience with a performance appraisal rating of 3 or better. Incumbent must complete DoD SCW Foundational level certification requirements within one year of entering the SC position. In addition, 40 hours of continuing education (CUE) every two years.
