Role Summary
The newly created U.S. Chief Operating Officer (COO) will serve as a senior executive leader responsible for driving operational excellence, commercial success, and long-term strategic direction. Reporting directly to the CEO, the COO will oversee the Commercial organization, Medical Affairs, and other functionals as directed by the CEO that are critical to the Company’s success. The COO will drive topline results, bolster the organizational culture, strengthen the leadership team, and cultivate a patient-focused atmosphere based on cooperation, responsibility, and inclusivity. As a member of the U.S. executive leadership team, this leader will chair the US Strategic Council and represent the Company to external stakeholders such as payers, advocates, regulators, customers, and strategic partners while guiding upcoming stages of innovation, market expansion, and transformation. A key objective is to increase patient access to Servier’s portfolio of medications.
This role shapes Company culture, ensures cross-functional alignment, and leads the organization through the next phase of innovation, M&A, and rapid growth within the pharmaceutical sector.
Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Define and execute the U.S. business strategy in alignment with global priorities and therapeutic focus areas.
- Partner with the CEO to define long-term vision, operating plans, and performance metrics.
- Ensure cross-functional alignment, governance, and delivery of enterprise objectives.
- Shape long-term portfolio, investment, and organizational priorities to sustain growth in primary therapeutic areas.
- Drive operational excellence through cross-functional accountability and rigorous execution; ensure the U.S. P&L meets goals.
- Anticipate market, regulatory, and scientific trends and adjust strategies to maintain competitive advantage.
- Model the Company’s values and culture, fostering integrity, innovation, and inclusion.
- Promote data-driven decision-making, real-world evidence, and digital technologies / AI to improve operations, medical impact, and commercial efficacy.
- Oversee risk management and compliance for all U.S. activities, adhering to industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Lead enterprise transformation projects to enhance agility, scalability, and innovation.
Commercial & Market
Ensure strategies for commercial assets are ambitious, competitive, and aligned with patient / provider needs.Accountability for market positioning and launch readiness; coordinate with commercial leadership as needed.Integrate commercial initiatives with Medical Affairs, Market Access, Regulatory, and R&D.Promote patient-centered commercialization balancing accessibility, clinical value, and long-term financial viability.Shape payer, access, and pricing strategies with oversight to maintain competitive advantage without day-to-day operations.Medical Affairs
Provide strategic oversight of Medical Affairs, ensuring scientific engagement, evidence generation, and compliance support business goals.Ensure robust scientific exchange, medical strategy, and compliance in line with industry standards.Leverage knowledge of payer, provider, regulatory, and policy aspects of the U.S. healthcare system to inform strategy.Partner with R&D and clinical leaders on portfolio direction and external engagement strategy.Support credibility in oncology and neurology through relationships with KOLs, advocacy groups, and professional societies.Culture & People Leadership
Champion a high-performance, patient-centric culture rooted in collaboration, integrity, and inclusion.Develop and mentor senior leaders with strong succession planning.Foster organizational agility to adapt to market shifts and therapeutic advancements.Balance innovation and accountability to deliver near-term results and long-term impact.Incorporate inclusion concepts into business culture, talent strategy, and community engagement.External Representation
Act as a senior representative with external stakeholders, including healthcare providers, regulators, advocacy organizations, strategic partners, and the investment community.Build relationships with key opinion leaders, payer organizations, and patient advocacy groups in oncology and neurology.Serve as a trusted spokesperson for the Company’s mission, products, and vision.Education And Required Skills
MBA or other advanced degree required; scientific background preferred.15+ years of progressive leadership in the pharmaceutical / biotech industry with strong commercial and operational background.Deep expertise in oncology and / or neurology markets, including launches, lifecycle management, and payer dynamics.Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams across Commercial, Medical, and enabling functions.Experience guiding organizations through growth, scale, or transformative change.Proven P&L ownership with a track record of revenue and operational performance.Experience communicating with external parties such as investors, regulators, boards, and partners.In-depth knowledge of FDA regulations, compliance requirements, and healthcare policy.Understanding of payer / provider dynamics and US reimbursement landscape.Proficiency with technology, data analytics, and digital tools to enable transformation.Exceptional communication, executive presence, and stakeholder influence.Country GM or similar leadership role preferred.Travel and Location
40% travel required (international and domestic).Boston-based, hybrid role with 3 days on-site per week.Servier’s Commitment
