Mechanics use specialized tools and diagnostic software to troubleshoot problems and they must maintain detailed service duties Perform routine and preventative maintenance : Conduct scheduled inspections oil changes lubrication fluid level checks and tire rotations. Diagnose and troubleshoot issues : Use diagnostic tools and test equipment to identify problems in mechanical electrical and hydraulic systems. Repair and replace parts : Disassemble repair or replace worn or malfunctioning components like pistons injectors transmissions and brakes. Work on complex systems : Repair and maintain major systems including engines electrical systems cooling systems and exhaust systems. Conduct safety and emissions inspections : Perform safety checks to ensure vehicles meet regulations. Test and adjust equipment : Test-drive or operate repaired equipment to ensure proper performance and make final and qualifications Mechanical and technical expertise : Strong understanding of diesel engines and heavy equipment mechanics. Diagnostic skills : Ability to use diagnostic tools and computer software to identify issues.
