Summary
The Compensation and Benefits Manager is responsible for managing the strategy, design, and administration of compensation and employee benefits for SPI’s global workforce of 1,300+ employees. This role develops and implements competitive, compliant, and cost-effective programs aligned with SPI’s business objectives. Important deliverables for this role include ensuring compensation equity, benefits compliance, and a compelling employee experience through data-driven insights, market benchmarking, and strong vendor partnerships. Reports to the SVP of HR.
Areas of responsibilities may include but are not limited to :
Compensation :
- Design, implement, and manage SPI’s compensation structure, including base pay, incentive and commission plans, and merit programs.
- Conduct job evaluations, internal equity analyses, and external market pricing to support hiring and retention.
- Lead annual global merit review processes.
- Partner with Managers and HR Business Partners to develop job descriptions and role-specific compensation packages.
- Monitor and ensure FLSA and wage rate compliance.
- Oversee compensation survey participation and apply benchmarking insights to ensure competitiveness for SPI’s industry and geographies.
Benefits :
Manage SPI’s health and welfare benefits strategy in partnership with our benefits broker and insurance providers.Coordinate annual open enrollment, benefits renewals, and ongoing plan management (medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, life, disability, EAP, retirement, and other programs) for the U.S. and Canadian operations.Monitor trends and collaborate on new solutions for cost control, employee health, and vendor performance (e.g., pharmacy carve-outs, specialty drug management, wellness initiatives).Leverage data analytics to assess utilization, identify cost drivers, and recommend enhancements or plan redesigns.Maintain compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA and other applicable regulations.Administer and oversee the company’s 401(k) retirement plan, ensuring compliance with ERISA, IRS, and DOL regulations, including timely filings, participant disclosures, and fiduciary obligations.Coordinate annual nondiscrimination testing (ADP / ACP, Top-Heavy), manage Form 5500 preparation, and ensure timely plan amendments aligned with legislative changes (e.g., SECURE Act).Serve as liaison with third-party administrators and plan fiduciaries; support audits, plan reviews, and ensure participant communication and education is accurate and timely.Analytics & Communication :
Partner with finance and HR teams to provide regular compensation and benefits reporting, financial modeling, and budget forecasting.In partnership with benefit brokers, leverage benchmarking tools, actuarial support, and predictive modeling to inform and recommend program design and strategy.Collaborate with external and internal partners to develop and deliver compelling benefits materials and presentations for employees and managers.Assist in developing total rewards communications and onboarding materials.Support the M&A process by reviewing compensation and benefits programs of acquired companies and leading their integration into SPI’s policies, practices, and platforms.Develop and deliver training programs to equip managers with the knowledge and tools needed for effective compensation management and communication.Support HR projects and audits; manage vendor and broker relationships.Serve as a resource to employees and managers for compensation and benefit inquiries.Other duties as assigned.Education, Skills, Experience, and Knowledge
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field required. Advanced degree and / or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) or Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) preferred.5+ years of progressive experience in compensation and benefits roles; international experience preferred.Deep knowledge of federal and state laws and compliance related to compensation, benefits, and pay equity.Experience in a multi-site, multi-state work environment. Support of international operations preferred.Strong Excel and analytical skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.Experience with HRIS / HCM systems and vendor platforms (e.g., benefits administration, compensation planning systems).Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information with discretion.Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and writtenWorking knowledge of job analysis systems and compensation strategies, familiarity with various types of incentive and benefits programsWork Environment
