Job Position
This position is responsible for performing general housekeeping tasks to maintain the facility and associated buildings in a sanitary, safe, and attractive condition and to meet hospital and Joint Commission standards. Essential functions include cleaning and disinfecting assigned areas using department cleaning procedures, using cleaning chemicals properly according to Joint Commission and OSHA standards, and understanding procedures and properly disposing of infectious waste and trash. The role also involves handling and cleaning up emergency spills per department guideline, Joint Commission, and OSHA standards. Follows all infection prevention practices including proper cleaning and disinfection protocols, hand hygiene, standard & isolation precautions, as well as proper donning and doffing of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Maintains work and storage areas following established policy and procedures to ensure safety.
Shift details include varying shifts between 6am and 7pm including weekends, with on call / as needed availability.
Skills required include cleaning, using chemicals properly, reading labels, and communication, with the ability to work independently and safely.
Qualifications include demonstrated communication skills to include differentiating color-coded labels and / or chemicals as well as following written and / or verbal directions, the ability to work a flexible schedule when needed to meet the needs of the department, and demonstrated professional housekeeping experience (preferred).
Physical requirements include the ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess customer needs. Frequent interactions with customers require employee to communicate as well as understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer, phone, and cable set-up and use. Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transport, pull, and push equipment. Will also work on hands and knees and bend to set-up, troubleshoot, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
