Job Summary
PetSmart's Store Leader has leadership oversight of the safety of people and pets, pet parent experience, operational execution, financial outcomes, and all human resource functions within all areas of the store. This role provides exemplary leadership, drives company culture and strategies, achieves targeted results, champions exceptional pet parent service, and ensures efficient daily store execution while upholding the company's vision, mission, values, and strategy.

People Leadership
Responsible for employment decisions such as recruiting, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and terminating.Builds an open-door culture by engaging and listening to associates; leverage Voice of Associate to respond to feedback.Creates and posts the store schedule after input from Experience and Process Leader.Facilitates associate experience and development, including reviews, recognition, training, onboarding, mentoring and succession planning.Delegates effectively, empowers others, and encourages ownership of results.Cascades information to associates and adjusts priorities to meet goals.Ensures alignment and responds to changing environment; addresses associate complaints and grievances.Recognizes associates driving engagement; ensures timely delivery of reviews.Overall Store Experience
Leads the associate and pet parent experience; ensures pets in care are safe and healthy.Accountable for pet parent experience and outcomes via telephone, in person, or online; responds to concerns.Creates a store environment focused on delivering exceptional pet parent and associate experiences.Evaluates operations and seeks opportunities to improve processes and services.Collaborates with Store Leadership to ensure effective in-store and community events (e.g., local adoption partnerships).Maintains store standards and ensures policy / Procedures compliance and code of ethics.Conducts monthly Core and Services Walks to validate policy execution.Prioritizes a safe environment for associates, pets, and pet parents.Ensures inventory management tools keep in-stock levels adequate for customers.Communicates business and financial objectives to leaders and associates.Reviews in-store cameras to assess safety and behaviors; coaches as needed.Initiates action when a sick / injured pet is identified and coordinates veterinary transport as needed.Shared responsibility for opening / closing procedures to uphold brand promise.Business Management
Delivers corporate strategy and profitability goals by executing leadership direction.Analyzes and responds to reporting; shares results and improvement plans with leaders and associates.Identifies opportunities to grow the business; holds associates accountable for store P&L targets.Manages expenses such as labor and supplies; collaborates with Home Office for orders and budgeting.Creates and posts store schedules; manages payroll weekly within budget.Runs daily / weekly / monthly reporting and related paperwork; performs store-related errands as needed.Qualifications
4-6 years of retail leadership or customer-focused experience.Full-time availability; flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays.Proficiency in computer applications; strong written and verbal communication.Ability to react under pressure and maintain composure; strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Supervisory Responsibility
Typically oversees the Experience Leader and Process Leader, up to six lead associates and 10–70 non-leader associates; follows PetSmart policies and procedures.Physical Demands and Work Environment
