Reports to :  Athletic Director and / or Principal

Location :  Bishop Verot High School | Fort Myers, FL

Classification : Salaried / Exempt

Overview

Bishop Verot Catholic High School, within the Diocese of Venice in Florida, Inc. works diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, the Athletic Trainer supports the school by providing athletic injury management for all athletes and assisting coaches with the design and implementation of injury prevention programs. Duties include, but are not limited to, prevention, evaluation, documentation, education, immediate care, coordination of care of athletic injuries and communicating with physicians, coaches, athletes, and their parents.

Job Responsibilities

  • Sustains and strengthens the mission of Bishop Verot and the philosophy of Catholic Education.
  • Have the ability to communicate effectively when talking to students, medical professionals, coaches, and parents.
  • Possess the ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
  • Maintains accurate records of injuries, treatments and provides insurance claim forms for sports injuries treated by a physician.
  • Provides athletic training services for all home athletic contests and away varsity football games. If a conflict arises between an away varsity football game and a home contest, the varsity football event will supersede.
  • Be present and available on campus Monday-Friday starting at 11am and ending after the last competition or practice of the day.
  • Provide rehabilitation and treatment services during lunch periods and after school to student athletes.
  • Acts as liaison between family physicians and specialists, athletes and their parents.
  • Develops and maintains a budget for the athletic training supplies / equipment.
  • Develops and keeps up to date with EAP’s for all venue’s associated with Verot Athletics.
  • Schedules and is present for pre-participation sports physicals.
  • Provides the coaches and athletic director with a list of athletes medically eligible to compete under district and state rules and regulations.
  • Works in conjunction with Athletic Director to ensure that Bishop Verot is adhering to health guidelines recommended by the CDC, FHSAA and / or local authorities.
  • Administer baseline concussion tests to all student-athletes once every 2 years
  • Evaluate and assess any athletes showing concussion-like symptoms. Take athletes through the post concussion RTP including post-concussion computer testing.
  • Maintain proper sanitation of the athletic training facility and equipment.
  • Assists the Athletic Director as requested.

Requirements

  • Masters Degree in Athletic Training
  • BOC Athletic Training Certification (ATC)
  • Must be licensed in the State of Florida through the Florida Department of Health (LAT)
  • Hold a valid Florida driver’s license
  • Lift and carry equipment weighing 10-20 pounds
  • Current certifications in First Aid, CPR, and AED
  • Stay up to date on CEU’s per BOC standards
