Fillauer is searching for a Manufacturing Engineer III to join our team in Chattanooga, TN. This position is responsible for leading complex engineering initiatives focused on optimizing manufacturing processes, tooling, and equipment performance. The Manufacturing Engineer III partners closely with production, design engineering, and quality teams to drive continuous improvement and innovation in manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will use sound judgement and outside resources to adapt to non-routine aspects of a problem.
Your Impact
- Design, develop, and implement manufacturing processes, fixtures, and tooling to support production goals and ensure repeatable, high-quality output.
- Create and optimize CNC programs for new and existing parts to improve throughput, reduce scrap, and ensure precision.
- Serve as a technical expert for machining operations, providing guidance on best practices for tooling, materials, feeds, and speeds.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for production issues, ensuring timely resolution and process documentation.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including lean manufacturing, waste reduction, and process optimization.
- Collaborate with design engineering to support new product introductions (NPI), ensuring manufacturability and smooth transition to production.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, including standard work instructions, setup sheets, and process flow diagrams.
- Identify opportunities for automation or process enhancements to improve productivity and cost efficiency.
- Support capital equipment projects, including justification, specification, and implementation.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and manufacturing staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or related Engineering field.Minimum 5–7 years of experience in manufacturing engineering (or related engineering field)Experience with CNC machining and process development is strongly preferred.Proficiency with CNC programming software preferred (e.g., FeatureCAM, Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar).Experience with fixture and tooling design using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor).Experience in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) to define and communicate the allowable variations in the geometry of parts and assemblies.Strong understanding of machining processes, materials, and manufacturing best practices.Demonstrated success in implementing process improvements and leading cross-functional initiatives.Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.Additional Success Factors
Experience in medical devices or precision manufacturing environments.Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.Familiarity with GD&T, blueprint reading, and process validation methods.Our Investment in You
