This role manages a group of security officers who ensure the protection of MLH's facility, develops and enforces security procedures and regulations, and acts as a liaison to all departments on security measures, procedures, and needs. What You Will Do

  • Manage operations responsible for controlling site access, including inspecting vehicles, checking in visitors, and verifying employee name tags.
  • Conduct investigations on incidents on property, researching information, questioning individuals, and completing necessary paperwork; assess severity and determine if further action is required.
  • Assess security problems, devise appropriate responses, review actions with staff, and inform superiors of unusual events.
  • Determine security system requirements and recommend additions or changes to the Director.
  • Direct activities during emergency situations by staying informed about emergency response systems, monitoring activities, and supervising response personnel.
  • Maintain relationships with local, state and federal agencies; coordinate emergency action plans or joint actions as required.
  • Direct the activities of security officers; review activities and determine the need for special security arrangements.
  • Develop operating budgets for the security department and ensure adherence to the budget.
  • Implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with security efforts.
  • Keep the Director apprised of developments or problems that may interfere with processes or cause property loss.
  • Train new officers.

Education / Formal Training Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice
  • Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice
  • Work Experience Requirements

  • 3-5 years Security or law enforcement
  • Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to model integrity and honesty to subordinates.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Demonstrable leadership potential.
  • Ability to understand and prepare moderately complex written materials, such as policy and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with associates, management and members of the public.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of own and others' workflow.
  • Supervision Provided by this Position

  • Supervises Security Officers.
  • Physical Demands

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position include heavy work – exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and / or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, or extensive reading.
  • Periodically to frequently use physical force to resolve an emergency situation and complete department-specific required training that includes physical, hands-on training and competencies.
