MAINTENANCE WORKER I-FULL TIME

POSITION OBJECTIVES

Performs a wide variety of skilled work in maintaining and / or repairing grounds, trees, stormwater drainage systems, streets, right of ways, parks, and other City facilities and areas. All work will be performed under general supervision of the Facility and Grounds Maintenance Supervisor and Crew Leader.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Assist in the maintenance and repair of all City owned buildings and structures.
• Assist in grounds maintenance including mowing, edging, trimming trees and hedges, watering, planting, applying herbicide, and picking up trash.
• Operate equipment including tractors, mowers, edgers, chainsaws, concrete mixers, rollers, various handheld power tools, bucket truck, and earth moving machinery.
• Install and repair irrigation piping.
• Repair and replace concrete sidewalks, curbs, and gutters.
• Repair asphalt paving (potholes to full patches) and paint traffic striping.
• Perform Right-of-Way maintenance including tree, shrub, and grass trimming.
• Build concrete forms, pour concrete, lay culvert pipe, lay block, form slopes for culvert pipe, pour lintels for block walls, bend steel for concrete, remove and install pipe, dig trenches for pipe.
• Maintain stormwater structures.

EDUCATION, Training and Experience

High School diploma, GED, or equivalent certificate of competency, and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in Facility Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance, and / or General Construction; demonstrated ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must possess a valid Florida driver's license and CDL.

(A comparable amount of training, education or experience can be substituted for the minimum qualifications.)
