Athletic Director
The Athletic Director administers and oversees all interscholastic athletic programs, ensuring compliance with AHSAA regulations and alignment with AAHS's mission. This role requires strong organizational skills, knowledge of athletic administration, and the ability to manage part-time responsibilities effectively while fostering a positive, safe, and competitive athletic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Program Administration & Compliance (40%)
- Organize and schedule all athletic events, securing facilities and AHSAA-registered officials.
- Verify student-athlete eligibility via DragonFly and AHSAA platforms; maintain required documentation (physicals, birth certificates, consent forms).
- Ensure coach compliance with NFHS certifications (concussion, heat acclimatization, CPR / AED, etc.).
- Submit all AHSAA-required forms, declarations, and membership renewals by deadlines.
Event & Facility Management (25%)
Coordinate game-day operations : officials, security, medical staff, transportation, and event staff.Monitor athletic facilities for safety, maintenance, and cleanliness.Develop and implement emergency action plans for all athletic activities.Budget & Resource Management (20%)
Prepare and manage the athletic budget; oversee purchasing, inventory, and equipment maintenance.Collaborate with school leadership and booster clubs on fundraising and resource allocation.Communication & Community Engagement (15%)
Serve as primary contact for parents, coaches, officials, and community partners.Promote athletic achievements and school spirit through recognition programs and media updates.Attend school leadership and athletic booster meetings as required.Qualifications
Required
High school diploma or equivalent.Knowledge of AHSAA rules, regulations, and eligibility requirements.Experience in athletic administration, coaching, or sports management.Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Proficiency with DragonFly, AHSAA portals, and Microsoft Office / Google Suite.Preferred
Bachelor's degree in sports management, education, or related field.Previous experience as an Athletic Director or Assistant AD in an Alabama high school.Existing relationships with officials, vendors, and conference / region stakeholders.Work Schedule & Conditions
Hours : Variable; includes evenings and weekends for games, meetings, and events.Setting : On-site at AAHS; occasional travel for away games or AHSAA meetings.Evaluation : Annual performance review by the principal based on compliance, safety, and program leadership.Compensation
Stipend or hourly rate commensurate with experience and program size.Professional development opportunities (e.g., AHSAA workshops, NFHS courses).
