Library And Records Management Assistant
Salary : $20.67 - $25.84
Under general supervision, performs a variety of duties related to mail and materials handling, including the pickup, sorting, processing, and distribution of mail, library materials, and book bins. Assists with library collection and maintenance tasks and responds to city departments' requests concerning facility record storage and retrieval.
Essential Job Functions
- Operate city vehicles in the completion of scheduled routes and special deliveries.
- Transport mail, records, deposits, book bins / boxes, and packages from city buildings to vehicle or other city buildings.
- Transfer, monitor, and dispose of inactive city records.
- Communicates with local vendors to coordinate dispositions.
- Operates personal computers, copy machines, postage meter, and department specific software systems and applications.
Other Job Functions
Assist with the checking in, shelving of materials according to the appropriate classification system.Retrieves library materials based on generated reports.On a nontypical basis, may perform other additional duties not listed in this description that are in alignment with the scope of essential job functions.Minimum Qualifications Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
Knowledge of state and local laws pertaining to records retention and disposal.Knowledge of filing methods and procedures.Knowledge of state and local laws pertaining to microfilming of permanent documents.Knowledge of roll and cartridge microfilming, microfiche production and aperture card production.Skill in communicating with other city employees and the public by oral and written means.Ability to maintain accurate records.Ability to organize and maintain a system for record disposal and retention.Ability to perform a variety of physical skills, including, but not limited to, carrying, seeing, sorting, and walking.Ability to safely lift or exert forces weighing up to 90 pounds lbs. on a repetitive basis and push or pull up to 90 lbs. for 25 feet.Ability to maneuver up to 300 lbs. on a consistent basis using a four-wheel dolly.Ability to push and control a loaded book cart weighing up to 300 lbs. safely.Ability to operate a motorized vehicle.Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments in all-weather conditions safely.Ability to work safely and effectively in environments where exposure to fumes, odors, dust, and mites may occur.Qualifying Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GEDTwo (2) years of college coursework in records management, science, or related fieldOr an equivalent combination of education and experienceMust possess a valid Texas Class C Driver's License (for non-local candidates, must maintain within 6 months of employment)Employment Screenings Required
