Senior Electrical Engineer (HV / MV) - Decentralized High-Performance Computing Leader

Electrical Engineer – HV / MV Power Systems

Overview

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer with deep expertise in high-voltage and medium-voltage systems to help design and deliver the critical power infrastructure that connects large-scale data centers to the grid. This position blends technical mastery in substation and distribution design with the ability to influence strategic decisions during utility and power purchase negotiations.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the full lifecycle of HV / MV system design, from evaluating interconnection points and transformer sizing to developing substation layouts, protection schemes, and ensuring compliance with regional codes and standards.
  • Drive the grid interconnection process by preparing and reviewing technical documentation for utilities, ISO / RTOs, and regulatory authorities.
  • Serve as the technical counterpart in Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) negotiations, translating commercial terms into practical engineering requirements, assessing feasibility, and advising on redundancy, capacity, and curtailment strategies.
  • Support field execution by troubleshooting HV / MV distribution issues, conducting Root Cause Analyses (RCA), and implementing corrective measures to strengthen long-term system reliability.
  • Act as the on-site engineering authority during substation and switchgear construction, providing oversight through commissioning and turnover.
  • Design and implement upgrades to existing facilities to expand capacity, boost efficiency, and enhance reliability of critical power systems.
  • Perform engineering audits across regional sites, with a focus on substation performance, HV / MV infrastructure, and compliance with reliability standards.
  • Collaborate closely with utilities, EPC partners, consultants, and internal stakeholders to ensure grid stability and seamless integration of new projects.
  • Manage multiple HV / MV and substation projects concurrently, often across diverse geographies.

What We Value

We value engineers who combine technical expertise with adaptability and curiosity. The ideal candidate is comfortable moving between office-based analysis, on-site inspections, and direct engagement with utilities.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent professional experience in HV / MV systems.
  • Proven engineering judgment with the ability to provide clear recommendations under uncertain or ambiguous conditions.
  • Hands-on experience solving complex power distribution challenges with engineered solutions.
  • Strong track record of managing HV / MV projects, contractors, and consultants from design through execution.
  • Ability to establish trust and build lasting relationships with utilities, EPC partners, and key stakeholders.
  • Willingness to spend meaningful time in the field, observing and addressing issues firsthand.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing or overseeing utility-scale substations (13.8 kV – 230 kV), including protection schemes, relaying, and SCADA integration.
  • Familiarity with grid interconnection studies, including load flow, short-circuit, and stability analysis.
  • Direct involvement in PPA negotiations, providing technical guidance on capacity and interconnection terms.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standards (IEEE, IEC, NEC, NESC) and their application to HV / MV systems.
  • Experience producing and reviewing substation documentation, including one-line diagrams, protection / control schematics, and construction submittals.
  • Background working with mission-critical facilities, particularly those requiring redundant HV / MV distribution topologies.
  • Familiarity with transformers, MV / LV switchgear, UPS systems, diesel generators, static transfer switches, and controls platforms (EPMS, SCADA, BMS).
  • We're an equal opportunity employer and welcome applications from diverse candidates.
