Job description

Facility Physician Correctional Medicine

Location : California City, CA

Compensation : $275,000 $325,000 annually

Type : Full-time Employed Direct Hire

We re seeking a Board-Certified (or Board-Eligible) Physician to step into a leadership role at a secure correctional facility in California City, CA . This is a full-time, mission-driven role where you'll not only deliver direct patient care, but also shape and oversee a high-functioning medical program serving an underserved population.

Clinical Care & Oversight

Provide comprehensive medical services, from exams and prescriptions to diagnosis and follow-ups

Triage and manage chronic, urgent, and emergent conditions

Promote preventive care and health education

Perform minor procedures and provide general medical counseling

Program Leadership

Lead and mentor clinical staff across all levels

Create and enforce evidence-based treatment protocols

Collaborate closely with nursing, mental health, and administrative teams

Ensure quality improvement and compliance with NCCHC, ACA, and JCAHO standards

Operational & Regulatory Responsibilities

Maintain complete and accurate documentation

Assist in audits, utilization management, and policy development

Participate in investigations, compliance reviews, and institutional hearings

Monitor hospitalizations and coordinate early discharges when appropriate

Safety & Environment

Uphold professional conduct during high-pressure or challenging interactions

Participate in emergency response and safety drills

Ensure secure handling of all medical records and equipment

Minimum Requirements

M.D. or D.O. from an accredited program

Active, unrestricted physician license in California (or ability to obtain)

Board-certified or board-eligible in Family Medicine Internal Medicine , or Emergency Medicine

Current DEA license with prescriptive authority

CPR / BLS certification

Preferred Qualifications

5+ years of clinical experience, ideally in correctional health, emergency care, or underserved settings

Prior supervisory or leadership experience highly valued

Familiarity with minor procedures, chronic care, and urgent medical management

Proficiency in EHR documentation and cross-functional communication
