Phlebotomist-Medical Assistant

Duties and Responsibilities

• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
• Collect fluid or tissue samples using appropriate collection procedures.
• Take blood tests and submit them to the Laboratory Company.
• Provide service in accordance with reimbursement, ethical and legal guidelines.
• Inform the physician and other related personnel of changes in the patient's needs and or physical changes.
• Draw blood from veins by vacuum tube, syringe or butterfly venipuncture methods.
• Draw blood from capillaries by dermal puncture.
• Dispose of contaminated sharps in accordance with applicable laws, standards and policies.
• Enter patient and specimen information into EHR.
• Write daily notes according to the Federal and State guidelines.
• Communicate with the MD regarding patient's status, obtaining additional orders if necessary.
• Ensure that all HIPAA / OSHA standards are in compliance.
• Assume responsibilities for self-development by continually striving to improve his / her knowledge through educational programs, attendance to workshops and conferences to keep all certifications up to date.
• Observe confidentiality and safeguards on all patient-related information and Medical Facility operational data.
• Complete order status
• Perform medical Assistant duties such as, but not limited to :
• Taking vital signs, blood pressure, temperature and respiration on each visit. Documenting those vital signs in the medical

records.
