SUMMARY OF POSITION FUNCTIONS
The Nurse Manager assumes responsibility and accountability for the nursing care of all residents. Supervises Licensed Nurses and other nursing personnel in the delivery of care and services according to each resident's comprehensive resident assessment and plan of care. Manages facility in accordance with facility philosophy, standards of professional nursing practices, and all federal and state laws and regulations.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS.
· Complies with the company’s privacy practices and procedures related to resident and employee records and all state and federal privacy practices and procedures related to resident and employee records and all state and federal privacy laws including HIPAA.
· Complies with and adheres to the appropriate use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required by the Bloodborne Pathogens Standards. Protective Personal Equipment (PPE), including personal protective equipment for eyes, face, extremities, protective clothing, and protective shield and barriers, will be provided, used, and maintained.
· Demonstrates teamwork and prompt and regular attendance to work to ensure that quality care and services are provided to the patients we serve.
· Make daily rounds on the unit to observe, examine, interview residents, evaluate staffing needs, monitor regulatory compliance, inspect quality care environment, and evaluate staff interactions, and clinical skills competency.
· In coordination with the Director of Nursing Services (DNS), develops, communicates, and maintains nursing policies and procedures that reflect current clinical practice, professional standards, and company and facility philosophy of care consistent with Federal and State laws and corporate policies and procedures.
· Manages departmental operations of the facility under the direction of the Director of Nursing and in conformance with Envive policy.
· Listens and documents verbal shift reporting making notes to follow up on significant changes in condition, admissions, transfers, discharges, initiation or use of physical or chemical restraints, unnecessary use of any drug, incidents, unexplained injuries, medication errors, loss of resident property, or evidence of dissatisfaction.
· Establish criteria and monitor performance to ensure that services provided meet established standards of quality.
· Collaborates with other departments, professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop and support coordination of resident care, and related administrative functions and to represent the interest of the facility.
· Acts to correct information received and reports relevant information to the ADNS/DNS including interdisciplinary team functioning and communication, regulatory compliance issues, resident risk factors, sudden changes in resident behavior, expressed dissatisfaction by resident or family, refusals of treatment, unexplained injuries, staff behavior (positive and negative), staffing needs, equipment and supply needs, opportunities to revise policies, procedures, and improve quality
· Conducts education, quality assurance, and admission screening as needed.
· Utilizes allocated resources in an efficient and economic manner to ensure that each resident achieves the highest practicable physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being. ·
· Monitors and ensures delivery of compassionate quality care by providing adequate services and staff coverage on the unit, absence of odors, cleanliness, absence of pressure wounds, and maintenance of optimal physical, mental, and psychosocial function.
· Maintains ongoing liaison among the governing body, medical and nursing staff, and other professional and supervisory staff of the facility.
· Handles physician, family and vendor relationships in the absence of Director of Nursing.
· Develops and implements infection control programs to provide a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment and to prevent the development and transmission of disease and infection.
· Conducts infection control surveillance activities to investigate, control, and prevent infections in the facility.
· Provides consultation to all departments on the application of infection control principles and procedures to specific situations.
· Conducts staff training and monitors proper hand washing, isolation techniques, and universal precautions.
· Implement workplace safety programs in the facility including hazard communication, occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens, and required record-keeping of occupational illnesses and injuries. Ensures OSHA compliance in all areas and provides employee training.
· Maintains Safety Data Sheets and exposure control plan for blood-borne pathogens readily accessible to all staff, 24 hours a day.
· Coordinates Hepatitis B vaccination program and post exposure evaluation and follow-up requirements. Maintains confidentiality of employee medical records.
· Develop and directs facility orientation programs and training for new employees including general orientation to facility policies, procedures, philosophy of care, and regulations that govern long-term care.
· Develops and conducts in-service education programs for facility staff consistent with staff needs and in compliance with state and federal regulations. Includes training for individuals providing nursing or nursing related services to residents with cognitive impairments, infection control, workplace safety issues, state law concerning advance directives and health care proxies, long-term care survey training, and safe medical device reporting requirements.
· Screens prospective admissions for the level of care, anticipated needs, length of stay, and presence of mental illness as required by federal regulations.
· Collects and reviews available records, interviews residents, designated family members with the consent of residents, and legal representatives and conveys information to unit staff and assists staff to prepare for admission of residents.
· Audits clinical records for accuracy and completeness of comprehensive resident assessments, effective documentation reflecting resident responses to interventions, and consistent implementation of plans of care by all staff and professionals on all shifts.
· Incorporates information and findings from chart audits performed in ongoing staff training efforts to improve documentation skills of nursing staff.
· Audits plans of care to ensure they are based on information contained in the comprehensive resident assessment, contain measurable goals and timetables and reflect the status of residents.
· Participates in interdisciplinary conferences as needed to develop adequate plans of care that are comprehensive based on comprehensive resident assessment and responsive to needs of residents.
· Monitors the provision of care and services to residents on all shifts and evaluates regulatory compliance efforts through daily rounds to observe care on all units.
· Interacts and communicates with residents, families, medical staff, nursing staff, department heads, and other interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and services, improve or maintain the quality of care, and quality of life for all residents.
· Reviews 24-hour report from every unit daily to ensure timely and effective responses to significant changes in condition, transfers, discharges, use of physical or chemical restraints, unexplained injuries, potential abuse or neglect, medication errors, loss of resident property, and any evidence of dissatisfaction. Gathers and analyzes facts, assesses situations, develops, and implements appropriate actions to investigate, to notify appropriate parties, to resolve issues and to record facts properly. Keeps Director of Nursing informed of findings and results.
· Develops and posts work schedules for nursing staff. Notifies DNS if insufficient staff to meet resident needs and takes immediate action to resolve staffing shortages as needed.
· Assists the Executive Director and DNS with preparation for long-term care survey. Actively participates in long-term care survey process by instructing staff in matters of conduct and disclosure, always maintaining presence surveyors are on-site, and directing the timely collection of information required by the survey team. Demonstrates concern for identified problems and undertakes corrective action while survey is in progress if appropriate. Gathers and presents supplemental documentation to avoid potential deficiencies. Collaborates with DNS to develop responses to survey repo1t as needed.
· Assists when needed with direct patient care, administers medications and specialized treatments and diet as prescribed to residents on the unit according to physician orders and follows facility policies and procedures. Receives and gives a comprehensive repo1t on all residents.
· Assists DNS with monitoring and compliance with departmental budget including supplies.
