This is a Temp-to-Hire position.
In this role, you will support the daily HR operations of the Fire Department by administering employee benefits, managing leave programs, coordinating workplace injury claims, and ensuring compliance with state and federal employment laws. You will also facilitate onboarding, recruitment, and retirement programs, while maintaining accurate and confidential employee records. This position is a key resource for staff, promoting a positive and compliant workplace environment.
Human Resource Generalist Duties :
Support all aspects of human resources operations including benefits facilitation, onboarding, recruiting, and accurate HR data management.
Oversee leave administration, including FMLA, WA Paid Leave, and workplace injury claims, ensuring compliance with OSHA and L&I regulations.
Coordinate retirement benefits through PERS and manage employee support during workplace injuries or extended absences.
Maintain HR compliance, support staff, and ensure smooth day-to-day HR functions within the department.
Facilitate new hire orientation, background checks, job postings, and applicant tracking.
Schedule : Day Shift
Monday to Friday, 8 : 00 AM to 4 : 30 PM (occasional work outside these hours for events)
Pay : $36.00 per hour
Human Resource Generalist Requirements :
Minimum 5 years of experience managing leave of absence processes, including FMLA, WA Paid Family & Medical Leave (PFML), and ADA accommodations, ensuring legal compliance and accurate tracking.
Skilled in benefits facilitation including employee education, enrollment, eligibility tracking, and coordination with benefit providers.
Knowledgeable in workplace accident and injury claim handling, including timely documentation, internal reporting, and support for injured employees.
Familiarity with OSHA and Washington State Labor & Industries (L&I) claims processes, including incident reporting, compliance requirements, and safety-related follow-up.
Demonstrated ability to manage WA State Paid Leave administration including employer reporting, employee coordination, and integration with other leave policies.
Strong understanding of retirement plans including the Washington State Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) and deferred compensation plans.
Proven experience supporting onboarding and recruiting processes including new hire orientation, background checks, job postings, and applicant tracking.
Proficient in HR data entry and recordkeeping ensuring accuracy and confidentiality within HRIS or similar systems.
