Job description

Pre-K Education Manager Specialist

Reports To : Cullman City Primary School Principal and / or Superintendent

Supervises : Pre-K Teachers & Support Staff

Days / Hours : 240 days / 8 hours

FLSA Status : Non Exempt

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in Early Childhood Education; or a Bachelor's or Advanced Degree in any subject and coursework equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with experience in teaching preschool age children.
  • Experience preferred, but not required.

Job Duties :

  • Coordinate and facilitate multitiered support meetings with all pre-k staff.
  • Utilize both community and district resources to provide wrap around services to students.
  • All other duties assigned by his / her supervisor
  • Extensive knowledge of early childhood education including all domains of learning and development
  • Familiar with current research of early childhood education and understands how research can be translated into classroom instruction
  • Ability to individualize using assessment data to drive coaching strategies
  • Proficient with Google Drive
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize tasks
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards, the Head Start Act, and Office of Head Start's National Center for Quality, Teaching and Learning resources.
  • Utilizes ECLKC.
  • Supervises teachers, instructional assistants, and interpreter, including yearly evaluations on each.
  • Annually updates policies and procedures in the area of Education. Ensures Cullman Pre-K remains in compliance with these policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates and assists in the collection of data on all Pre-k assessments.
  • Composes a beginning of the year, middle of the year, and end of the year presentation of all Pre-k data to the Cullman City Primary School Leadership Team.
  • Assists with updating, to include, but not limited to professional development planning, Long Range Goals and Short-Term Goals, School Readiness Plan, Practice Base Coaching Model, CLASS Implementation Plan and budget.
  • Composes and communicates a Program Information Report (PIR).
  • Maintains CLASS Reliability.
  • Conducts CLASS observations in all classrooms.
  • Conducts formal and informal classroom and teacher observations.
  • Participate and assist with orientation for new personnel.
  • Coordinate lesson planning and ongoing professional development meetings to discuss curriculum and child outcomes and to provide on-going training.
  • Guides curriculum and education program planning, development and training.
  • Coordinate with special education teacher and general education teacher for students with IEP's in order to provide classroom teachers with all necessary information needed to carry out IEP goals.
  • Coordinate with Interpreter to provide and schedule parent meetings and home visits.
  • Monitors and utilizes Child Plus and Power School for data entry to maintain current information pertaining to professional development and training on all staff members monthly.
  • Complete annual set up for students and teachers on screening and assessment tools.
  • Utilize current assessment tool to monitor ongoing child assessment and access child outcomes reports.
  • Assists with annual updates of Parent Handbook and Home Visit Packet materials.
  • Prepare, update and assemble Staff Handbooks for all Pre-k staff.
  • Review, approve and file classroom schedules, weekly lesson plans and newsletters, and plan monthly parent calendars and activities.
  • Provide training to staff, parents and members of the community in the areas of child outcomes / curriculum and CLASS results as needed.
  • Conducts yearly Pre-K workshops for all area preschools.
  • Conduct reviews of student folders in classrooms to ensure all necessary documents are included.
  • Coordinate Classroom Buddy Visits.
  • Involves parents / families in the educational activities of the program in order to enhance their role as the principal influence of their child's education and development.
  • Coordinate and facilitate School Readiness Committee meetings throughout the year.
  • Coordinate Pre-K transition visits between Kindergarten and Pre-K Teachers.
  • Coordinate Pre-k Transition activities with teachers.
  • Distribute end-of-year checklists to teachers.
  • Participates in the development of strategies and trainings for teaching staff that address Individual Professional Development Plans.
  • Will support teachers in learning to promote the advancement of physical and intellectual competency within the child's capabilities, support and promote a positive self-image, and recognize individual strengths of each child in a developmentally appropriate learning environment.
  • Will support teachers in increasing literacy and numeracy activities in their classroom.
  • Will support teachers in learning new techniques to deal with children who have social-emotional issues.
  • Develop coaching plan with each teacher-based area on areas of needed support caseload and document progress on each visit.
  • Assists teaching staff with appropriate curriculum planning and implementation.
  • Conducts observations of teaching staff and their interactions with children and families to create opportunities for discussion.
  • Provides feedback in a supportive, instructive and non-judgmental way.
  • Enhances the ability of teaching staff to observe children's activities and experiences as part of the on-going assessment process and for individualization of curriculum.
  • Models age and developmentally appropriate strategies for engaging children in interactions designed to improve their vocabularies, content knowledge, love of learning and persistence in pursuing inquiries.
  • Assist with morning arrival and / or afternoon dismissal duties daily.
  • Make home visits as needed and provide referrals to community resources.
  • Advocate for the Cullman Pre-K program
  • Maintain a positive work ethic, be aware of professional boundaries, and ensure confidentiality is maintained.
  • Attend in-service, workshops, trainings, meetings, etc. as required.
  • Assist in other job-related duties as needed.

  • Background Check Required :

  • Physical Demands :

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk and use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, carry and / or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. Adequate physical and mental health documented with a signed statement from a physician.
