Job Description : Assistant Controller
Position Overview
The Assistant Controller will be a key contributor in the finance team of a fast-growing industrial services company with annual revenues over $500m, reporting directly to the VP Controller. This role is responsible for driving the monthly close process, collaborating with many field locations to ensure accurate financial results, and providing hands-on oversight for reconciliations. The ideal candidate is a confident leader with a strong understanding of general ledger accounting, a passion for improving processes, and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment undergoing an ERP transition from QuickBooks.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of 6-8 general ledger accountants through monthly close process, ensuring timely reporting and accurate reconciliations.
- Enhance and close checklists, monitor progress and facilitate resolution of progress to , assign roles, and maintain segregation of duties to ensure compliance and efficiency.
- Collaborate with field locations to capture accurate monthly financial results.
- Excel skills (e.g., vlookups, pivot tables) for data manipulation and journal entries.
- Provide hands-on oversight and problem-solving during the ongoing ERP implementation (first half 2026 go-live target).
- Work closely with operations accountants, field billing teams, and the Accounts Payable department to align financial processes.
- Mentor and guide the accounting team, fostering accountability, confidence, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CPA candidate preferred.Demonstrated ability to drive close cadences,Proficiency in advanced Excel (vlookups, pivot tables) for data manipulation and journal entries.Experience operating within ERP systems is requiredExcellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills to collaborate across departments and guide a diverse team.Adaptability and a proactive mindset to drive process improvements in a dynamic environment.Public accounting or audit experience is preferred, but not required.Work Environment
Primarily based in the Galleria / ,Fast-paced, collaborative environment with opportunities to contribute to a significant accounting process transformation and ERP implementation.No remote work options are available.Compensation and Benefits
Salary range : $160,000–$180,000, commensurate with experience.Bonus potential of 15%.Challenges and Opportunities
