What You Will Do:

As a Tunneling Design Engineer, you will play a critical role in the planning and design of underground infrastructure that supports our clients. Your work will contribute directly to water, wastewater, stormwater, and transportation systems, ensuring resilient and efficient infrastructure for communities.

You will be responsible for:

• Leading and supporting design of tunnels, shafts, and related underground structures.
• Performing geotechnical and structural analyses, including ground-structure interaction and lining design.
• Preparing plans, specifications, and technical reports for municipal tunneling projects.
• Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver creative and constructible solutions.
• Supporting clients during the full project lifecycle, including feasibility studies, risk assessments, and construction support.
• Developing cost estimates, schedules, and technical documentation.
• Maintaining open and effective communication with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
• Staying current with evolving tunneling technologies, codes, and standards.

You will also have opportunities to serve as a technical lead or client manager, representing WSB in high-profile infrastructure programs or projects.

What You Will Bring:

The successful candidate must have:

• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering (Master’s preferred).
• Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE), or ability to obtain within six months.
• 5+ years of experience in tunneling design, underground structures, or related projects.
• Knowledge of tunneling methods (TBM, SEM/NATM, microtunneling, cut-and-cover, etc.).
• Experience with design tools such as PLAXIS, FLAC, GeoStudio, or STAAD.
• Strong technical writing and communication skills.
• A collaborative mindset and a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience supporting infrastructure projects (water, wastewater, utilities, transportation).
• Hands-on exposure to construction support and monitoring for tunneling projects.
• Familiarity with project permitting and funding sources.
