Certified Nurse Assistant / Personal Care Attendant / Med Aide
Job Summary : Under the Resident Care Manager and / or Charge Nurse, works one-on-one with Residents of the Masonic Home to provide quality healthcare, ensuring that Resident's needs are met in a safe and timely manner.
Essential Functions :
- Answers Residents' call lights and fulfills Residents' requests and needs in a timely manner.
- Reports to the nurse in charge unusual and special requests and conditions.
- Responsible for keeping Resident rooms clean and free of clutter. Includes making beds daily, with a complete bed change once weekly. Assures that soiled linen is taken to laundry and trash taken out at the end of each shift.
- Gives morning and evening care. Assures baths are done as scheduled, and Residents are assisted with dressing, personal hygiene needs and ambulation as required by the nursing care plan. Disinfecting of tub and accurate recording of showers and baths given.
- Accurately takes and records blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations and weight as required by the nurse in charge, reporting unusual findings as required.
- Assists nurse as required with administration of treatments, massages and nail and skin care as trained to perform.
- Observes and properly reports to the nurse in charge any unusual symptoms such as change of color, skin temperature or unexplained behavioral changes.
- Assists nurse with special examinations and / or treatments by assembling equipment, positioning and draping Resident and rendering other assistance as instructed.
- Must maintain a current Montana Driver's License and carry on person at all times when transporting Residents.
- 2nd floor aide to assist in dining room serving meals, cleaning and resetting tables. Remove garbage from dining room.
- Documents completed healthcare interventions as required in CNA / PCA files and Resident flow sheets. Completes incident reports as necessary.
- Assists Resident with R.O.M. and ambulation as indicated by Resident care plan needs.
- Prepares snacks and nourishments for Residents, serving in a cheerful manner and assisting with intake as required. Documents intake and output. Serves meals to Residents in the dining room.
- Participates in fire / emergency drills and abides by safety procedures per policy manual. Will respond to emergencies within the facility. Will respond to emergent staffing calls for help where shortages will interfere with the delivery of care and service to the Resident.
- Responsible for immediately reporting to Administrator or designee any evidence or suspicions of verbal and / or physical Resident abuse.
- Position may require heavy lifting of Residents and related strenuous work but will adhere to Home policy with lifting and transferring at all times.
- Actively participates in all programs of the Home as directed.
- Assist Residents in activities if time permits or as requested to do so.
- Maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and Residents and perform other duties as assigned.
Medication Aide Only :
Assists Residents with the self-administration of medication.Completes MAR documentation of self-administration of medication, blood sugar and vitals.Promptly communicates with pharmacies and Practitioners on related issues.Promptly provides family notifications of incidents and other related events.Documents incident Reports and / or all other reports as required.Obtains urine specimen for urine dip analysis after gathering the appropriate supplies, reads the dip stick result and faxes results to the Practitioner.Calls 9-1-1 as needed for falls and / or other events which require a clinical assessment.Prepares paperwork for 9-1-1 calls and appointments.Prepares Residents for transports.Assists with locating a shift replacement in response to call offs.Responds to the bowel list for needed intervention.Observes for changes in Residents and reports to a Licensed Nurse or Resident Care Manager.Documents as needed in the Residents medical record.Notifies the Resident Care Manager of needed supplies.All Practitioner orders including prescription medication for which the dose or schedule has been changed by the Practitioner must be noted in the Resident's Medication Administration Record.Notifies a Licensed Nurse or the Resident Care Manager of treatments that require completion.Monitors the oxygen saturation level of the Resident and assists with oxygen therapy.Participates in shift report.Participates in shift change count and reconciliation of controlled drugs.The Medication Aide functions as the shift Leader and Supervisor.Maintains a high level of confidentiality and professionalism at all times.Monitors staff on their shift to ensure the Residents wants and needs are met.Supervises the delivery of care to each Resident in accordance with the Resident Service Plan and accepted standards of care.
