Transportation Planner III – Metropolitan Transportation Plan (Modeling Applications)

North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) invites qualified candidates to apply for the Transportation Planner III position within the Transportation Department, which supports the region's long-range transportation plan.

Overview

This role assists with travel demand model application activities, supporting needs-based multimodal planning by simulating current and future scenarios to inform transportation development and air-quality analyses.

Responsibilities

  • Code and evaluate roadway and transit networks in TransCAD.
  • Support travel demand model development and implementation.
  • Run regional travel demand model simulations and analyze outputs to support project recommendations and air-quality analyses.
  • Perform specialized modeling tasks such as managed lane pricing development, link analysis, and unconstrained traffic simulations.
  • Provide user support for travel demand model applications.
  • Assist the agency and external partners with data and technical requests, ensuring consistent and accurate inputs.
  • Conduct needs-based planning activities and evaluate impacts on the transportation network through scenarios.
  • Summarize and interpret maps, charts, tables, and reports, and communicate model results.
  • Coordinate travel demand modeling activities with the Model and Data Development program area.
  • Prepare and deliver oral presentations.
  • Prepare meeting agendas and supporting documentation.

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Detail oriented and highly organized, able to manage multiple assignments in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Understanding of transportation and regional planning principles and processes.
  • Proficiency in GIS with the ability to create maps.
  • Working knowledge of travel demand forecasting processes.
  • Experience with data visualization tools and methods.
  • Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in an analytical or quantitative discipline.
  • Over one year of work-related experience in transportation planning or modeling.
  • Salary Range

    Minimum of $63,658.79 – $76,390.55 annually.
